The Commons select committee for Health and Social Security just finished on TV again. PHE confirmed once again that long term surveillance will monitor the vaccination program to answer some outstanding questions. Crucially this includes questions on how long protection will last and whether you can still be contagious after vaccination. They are going to monitor millions. The answers to the questions could be very variable. They will want to examine these issues in the context of all the different demographics and relating to different underlying health issues. The UK experience can help to inform the template for the world. Antibody tests will also help to reassure us as individuals, in measuring when we need a booster.
I think at this point we will get contract wins first, followed by MHRA approval to support the lifting of restrictions. Government will want to ensure surveillance needs and additional capacity to check boosters are available on prescription, before they enable the anxious 'wealthy but healthy' to buy more than they need.

Calderkate, I don't think it's a coincidence. I think they will buy and roll out antibody tests in good time to support the roll out of the second jabs, ensuring that the first jab has afforded a good antibody response. The vaccine has been tested on 45000. There's an opportunity to confirm the success of the vaccine with a cohort of up to 13.2 million. That will boost confidence amongst the resistant groups in the public and will support better takeup worldwide since the UK is first out of the block with mass vaccines.

The RNS of 29th December 2020 says that the DHSC has first rights on the ABC19 test until 14th February. The deadline for the antibody test contract for £100 million is 31st January. Delivery is required from mid February with a decision to be made 5th February. Other contracts for £85 million already have Abingdon Health's name on them. Literally. The first vaccine deployment to 13.2 million people is planned for completion by mid February after which they must start second vaccinations to remain within the 12 weeks scope for vaccine efficacy- approval is conditional on this. Anyone else notice an interesting coincidence between the delivery requirements for antibody tests and second vaccine jabs for 13.2 million people?

MHRA approval is required for all home use tests. They have given approval for one lft antigen for home use in limited circumstances I think? For health workers.

And all the speculation about profit margins on here is very lazy. Read the investors presentation. We know that the profit margin is 75p per test for government orders up to a specified limit. Commercial sales and overseas sales will be much higher because the agreement with government recognises government investment.

Cases are not coming down. The BBC on World at One today covered the latest ONS report and the new 'Zoe' report. 1-1.5 million people have got the virus now. 62% have the new UK variant. 70,000 new cases a day according to the Zoe report.

Balding quickly (love your user name), I agree. There has been talk of 1 year boosters. But the only defenite is that PHE will be monitoring the efficacy because they don't know how long immunity will last. Moderna and Pfizer have both estimated at least a year at different times though the assumption has been boosters will be required.

The testing at airports was on all morning on BBC news. Lfts were mentioned loads of times.

Avacta are not diagnostics experts which is why they are still working on their test whilst Mologic have already got several tests. The antigen lft is going through evaluation. The research on the test is due to be published this month. Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine have CE marked it. It has been included in Heathrow trials.

Headline news. Anyone flying to the UK needs a negative test. Airlines will be offering the tests as part of the ticket imo. Lots of criticism about whether other countries will have testing facilities and tests that meet the standards. Can't see why they wouldn't but I think airlines will sell them to take the hassle out of it.
Four Figures, you are right. We didn't know in March when we were buying for 30-33p that the government's much vaunted testing program would not have taken off until now for most UK testing companies. But it is taking off now. There are 2 massive contracts for antibody tests on bidstats that we have all seen. Investing is not like putting your money in the post office savings account. The risks are higher and the returns can be off the scale comparatively.
Get a grip or sell up. I will buy your shares. We will soon know where we are. Contract awards for the new antibody tests are due by February 5th. The award for £85 million has been awarded to the RTC already. I am going to email Walbrook and Abingdon Health to ask them about the status of the contract award and ask when they can confirm it.

As a few posters have mentioned it's looking good for us if there's that level of excitement from government about treatment reducing mortality by 25%. Once our first dosing is announced any day now I assume SNG will remind the market that phase 2 trials showed 79% efficacy.

We won't sell 2 million a week at £89.00 each. They will retail about £16-19.00 if they give MHRA approval and then we might sell to a huge market.
I think it looks more like we will get some big government orders and sell overseas on open markets- the US are more open to the notion of personalised healthcare than us. Our government will probably offer them on prescription for various key workers imho.

The Spectator are reporting today, that Han**** has said that we won't eradicate the virus. We will be managing it forever more. He's just told the Health and Social Care committee that once we have vaccinated vulnerable people we will have a national debate about managing risk. He said that test and trace are key parts of the strategy going forward. In answer to a question about self testing at home he said that the MHRA are still looking at this and that the government would like to see it but the MHRA are independent.

Thanks for sharing the updated privacy note from the DHSC Carados. So confirmation that there will be surveillance of the vaccine efficacy using antibody tests.
Gavin Williamson has told the House of Commons that the government will be extending mass testing to primary schools as part of the plan to lift restrictions.
Han**** on now talking about the exit plan from restrictions. He's saying vaccine manufacturing is limited by capacity for materials. We will have a steady, evidence led retreat from the restrictions apparently. There will be a pharmacological survey to monitor the vaccine impact as it rolls out. Once we have broken the link between hospitalisations and death and the number of cases we can start to lift restrictions.
Evidence led? How do we establish an evidence base? Mass testing.
