Pmoran, well we all have our boundaries I guess though not sure what yours are, lol. The only reason I mentioned that I am an ethical investor- fully aware not everyone is- is because some posters were discussing the question of acquisitions and assuming that buyouts are always about asset stripping. I don't think they are.
On the situation Marston's are in I must admit I didn't expect such a low ball offer. I agree with the board. It's derisory. For all the reasons they have stated. £1.50 would be a steal. £1.05 is cheeky as hell. Hope they don't get it for that. Bit shocked actually. Hopefully they will up their game. The market seems to have responded with resilience so far.

Why wouldn't it go north? Barclays and Nordes Bank are buying 1% and 2.5% of the company shares at 87p on Friday. Jump in now. Mms not letting it go higher than 90p anyway. But when we get the first offer confirmed you will get offered 2p less than that first offer at once from market makers. Very likely to be between £1.25 and 1.50. And then 2p less than a second offer from a new bidder. And so on until they seal a deal. No-one's buying 1 and 2.5% in one go for no reason. James Spader bought in at 1% with what looks like his own money- he also works in mergers and acquisitions. Banks will probably keep buying.

I'm an ethical investor. I don't do oil or weapons and lots of other stuff. I put petrol in my car and I'm not a pacifist but as far as my investments are concerned I think 'do no harm' and ideally do some good. But we don't control the financial markets infrastructure. Takeovers will happen until we restructure- not looking likely is it? Like never. I would be happy with a bit more regulation myself. They won't asset strip the pubs. Marston pubs are making good money (turnover £1.17 billion in 2019 according to Bloomberg and the FT- google it) and with less post pandemic competition they will do even better. Kraft didn't asset strip Cadbury's. Chocolate bars are smaller. No-one died.
Big old buy for a very high short term return.

2.5% declared buy from Norges Bank from Friday. Again- they seem to disagree with Liberium's tip to hold. MMs keeping the sp down nice and low for mate's rates. Won't last. The lower your entry point the better your return. Already bought £26k last week but I may as well jump in with some more. Bit daft not to. They are going to buy for well over £2 billion. Marston's turned over £1.17 billion in 2019. They aren't on their knees. This is just the pandemic and the buyers know that as well as Marston's. I think they'll be getting it cheap at £2.5 billion. If they go too low they will just start a bidding war.

And Barclays declare a massive buy today. Lol. Making sure we stay at mate's rates? We are going for a 50-80% rise. Platinum's last buy was for £2.7 billion for a medium sized tech company. James Spader, a partner in a mergers and acquisitions firm bought over 1% on Friday, declared after hours. Wonder if they know something that's staring us in the face. Strong buy. You lths moaning about it ending in tears will double your money. Your only worry is deciding where else to take your money. GLA.

Not sure it's comparable in anyway to Gamestop YoYo, with respect. Marston's are likely to do well, with or without a buyout once the pandemic is done. They have survived and they will pick up market share from those who ain't. I think Platinum's behaviour is clearly opportunistic but they aren't buying Debenhams. They are going to have to pay if they want the pub chain and they may have competition.

£2.2 billion is the net 'enterprise' value! Sorry- not the net book value. Don't know how they work it out. 1,400 pubs? The brand for their own brews? The £780 mill joint venture and the value implications of this when it is applied over several years?
But Platinum does seem to get their hand in their pocket quite nice and deep for takeovers.
Bloomberg seems to think that the city think some-one else might want it. Who knows. Quite exciting really. I hope a big UK firm fight it out for us. Did Greene King end up getting fought over in a bidding war? Already had 2 UK pub chain buyouts in the last few years. This article also reminds us that Greene King went for over $4 billion.

I don't think they will wait that long. I give it anything from 3-9 days depending on how the offer is received and how generous it is. As has been observed earlier Bloomberg say we'll get over £2 billion. Their last acquisition was for more than that. They have money. Marston's has a book value of at least £2.5 billion.
We'll soon see. I think we will get between £1.30 and £1.50 at the lower range. But could be higher. They want to make sure the board recommend it.

I don't really see the point of the market makers tbh. More buys than sells because investors see the massive potential- for high value growth in a time of a pandemic and they take the price down. No wonder the Robinhood posse et al are taking them to task.

It's a great interview. David Budd is confident and super credible. They are offering a fully integrated solution in PCR- a ready to go PCR system and tests.
1.The design of their PCR targets multiple parts of the virus and it's easy to modify- it will never become redundant- immediate advantage to most of providers.
2.Beckman Coulter's RNA extraction techniques are being employed (precise and high efficacy). BC's robotic solutions mean customers will get much faster production. They don't need as much of the raw materials for PCR tests because the design is very efficient.
3. The US government offers a very high 'reimbursement' rate of $100.00 a test. Looks like the £4.00 a test for GDR might look closer to £10.00? Too conservative?
4. Testing labs can make decisions autonomously in the US.
5. BC has a presence all over the US as discussed many times.
6. Biden is committed to continued testing.
Do we know what expected sales are? It looks like they are going to make several billion pounds here.

I am still pinching myself that I got in yesterday by chance really- when I realised that BC was on the main framework agreement for the overall £15 billion government contract for testing and testing infrastructure. He's just signed a sales and distribution agreement with big pharma- they will be taking the strain on that side of things through their international presence. So yeah, very happy with my investment decision. Of course all the investor publications will be giving this a shout over the next couple of weeks. Whoop whoop!

Yes I'm looking forward to hearing what the CEO has to say tomorrow on Proactive. It will be hard to make an agreement with a multinational big pharma for sales distribution reaching a more defined stage - only 2 weeks before commercialisation- sound anything less than fantastic!

This is just the start of a massive rise in the short, medium and long term for sure. When this partnership was first announced the sp in GDR grew very fast. Then vaccine news came along and all cv19 plays took a hit. Right now the rest of the market is in the doldrums as investors digest the fact that the vaccine is going to take time and the virus needs long term management because of mutations and the fact that assessments around how long immunity lasts is still under review and likely to be variable dependant upon age. We aren't out of the woods until we've vaccinated the whole world. Investors are getting out of the FTSE. Give the institutional investors a chance to lick their wounds and they'll start noticing stocks like this. Today's announcement substantiates the credibility of this little company as a high growth stock with long term viability- unless they get bought out which is an obvious possibility isn't it?

It is going back up and it will continue to go up a bit each day if everyone holds their nerve. More news to come on this massive step forward. An international sales and distribution agreement. What other small company has achieved that within a year? Alongside partnerships with big pharma lining up faster PCR processes with more sophisticated capacity on viral loads. Beckman Coulter are also finalising genome sequencing which is going to be in high demand to track new variants. If they bring these capabilities together they will dominate the market.
