Assuming NCA batteries in the cyber truck then 0.7Kg of nickel per kWh would be about right so a 200kWh battery would have about 140kg of nickel. That's twice the amount in a Tesla Model 3 with an NCA battery.

I invested in a company 15/20 years ago doing regenerative braking for buses. The regenerative braking, however, supplemented the ICE. The example I posted earlier doesn't have an engine and doesn't need to plug in. It can do that because the dump truck goes up hill empty and down hill full. That's what I thought was clever not that its simply regenerative.

With all the emphasis on ESG it will be interesting to see if Amur develops KM to comply. EV dump trucks to haul the mine waste and ore, wind turbines and solar panels to generate the power, static batteries to store energy until it's needed. Adopting these measures would help Amur to produce "clean" nickel. It might be more expensive than going down the traditional route but it would certainly make Amur's product more attractive to western car/battery companies.

A greenfield site like KM must be attractive to Norilsk. It would be an awful lot easier to meet the environmental standards in ESG developing a greenfield site than it would be modifying their existing nickel operations.

Nickel has surged more than 60% from a low in March as its long-term importance to the battery industry is complemented by demand from the stainless steel sector. Tesla Inc.’s Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk has said the metal will play a greater role in the company’s batteries, and pleaded with miners to produce more.

“We’ve seen a lot of investment flows into nickel due to the growing importance of the battery sector,” said Trafigura’s Khodov. “We are looking at a very substantial deficit in the long term.”

There's a lot to like in this article. Even if its only half right it implies a very significant double bump for nickel in the next few years.

Probably not. After buying into NRR they said this:-

"The remaining US$3.26 million will be used to fund the continued development of the Kun-Manie nickel copper project, general working capital and to pay expenses relating to the Investment and the Placing."

Its anybody's guess how much of the $3.26m was left after paying off all the costs involved in acquiring the NRR CLNs. I can't imagine there's enough left for any sort of meaningful investment in anything.

You’ve clearly read my post but I’m not sure you’ve understood it. One development during Tesla’s battery day, dry cathode manufacture as opposed to a wet slurry, will reduce costs by more than even a doubling in the price of nickel. It’s Wrights Law that you need to focus on not the price of nickel.

Lastly, when is comes to computers you essentially have two choices a PC or a MAC. If price were the only factor people considered when deciding which one to buy nobody would buy a MAC. The driver (no pun intended) for adoption is more than simply price.

Lithium iron phosphate doesn't even come close to NCA and NMC. You then need to try and understand the impact various price increases will have on battery pack prices.

The above link is from February 2019, but nickel was more or less at the same level it is now back then, so the figures are still relevant. Nickel at $27,000/tonne would increase the price of NMC 811 batteries, not the battery packs, by 4.7%. That's not exactly a showstopper is it? On the other hand, I think everybody here would be delighted if nickel were to reach that level.

Try putting all of this into a real-life example. In an EV costing $50,000 the battery pack will cost somewhere in the region of 30% of the overall cost or about $15,000. In a Tesla model 3, depending on the configuration there will be about 70kg of nickel or about 154 lbs. From here it’s not too difficult to work out the impact the cost of the nickel on the overall cost of the car.

Tesla’s battery day highlighted several developments that look set to reduce the cost of battery packs by margins much higher than any likely future increases in the cost of nickel. If you’re not familiar with Wright’s Law now might be the time to read the below.

Remember the time when RY used to bang on about Santa Rita and how ready he was to compare it to Kun Manie. Several years down the road with a load of additional drilling under our belt and KM looks an awful lot more attractive than Santa Rita.

My understand is Paul McKay resigned as CFO the start of October which, given the length of time he has been at Amur, a three month notice period would seem about right. Yet he was appointed a director of Carlo Holdings on the 17th. September 2020 just before he resigned from Amur. That's a strange turn of events. It could of course be nothing but if it is indicative of something I can't for the life of me think what.

That clause was in the original RNS. I suspect its there to allow for conversion to equity before term in the event of an offer for NRR. When Western Desert Resources owned and operated Roper Bar they received and offer back in 2012 from Chinese company Meijin Energy of A$400m (can't remeber the exact figure) for the company. The US$ and A$ were at around one for one back then.

That offer was for the whole of Western Desert Resources which had a few more irons in the fire (no pun etc.) than just Roper Bar at the time but my understanding is the Chinese were principally interested in the iron ore. All the other stuff, Thor Mining for example, was probably worth buttons.

The deal for Roper Bar didn't go through (obviously) but it is a project that I can well imagine would attract the interest of a Chinese buyer. If it does then the clause you highlight gives NRR and Amur the necessary means to tidy up the book prior to a disposal.

That's not the issue and I'm certainly not suggesting anybody is doing anything wrong or not notifying when they should. Previous TR-1 notices seem to suggest that larger share holders have notified the company when they should have.

If the thresholds for the likes of Teck and Canaccord are 5% then, at the most, that's 72,500,000 shares that could either be bought or sold before a threshold is crossed. That's a lot of shares somebody could either buy or sell without having to notify anybody.
