I'm between thought processes at the moment.

I'm thinking sell to buy back at a lower price later if as we suspect that the price drops therreby obtaining some freebies but thinking this may well be a bit risky.

Then I also find myself remembering when Gordon Brown sold off north of 400 tonnes of the Government's gold reserves right in the middle of a bear run instead of buying a **** load more while it was out of favor to sell off at a profit at the next bull run.

2 intriguing lessons. The problem is is determining which scenario has the most merit.

Yes, you may well be right. This market meltdown is serious squeeky bum time. Plenty of nervous investors out there atm I imagine. Maybe doing nothing is a chain of thought. As you say recovery will come. Eventually.

Re: dividends. Dependant on the damage done by this nonsense, a cut or suspension may in the short term may be prudent if needs be.

For clarity, I mean this news (if true) that they are going to close pubs temporarily will go down like a lead fart.

Would it not make sense to therefore push destinations away from affected areas? Would that make sense? I do not need to be told to think of this, but then, I don't have 50 years of experience in the industry.

I'm not 100% certain, but I believe that under normal circumstances, they do have to pay for all rpoms they hold. But would have thought that there would be clauses in contracts to cover contingencies like this.

To suggest that hotels would go bust because of just this is ludicrous. Unless it goes on for more than a year or so. It will make things very difficult to day the least.

And if one company goes the same way as TCG, is it unreasonable to assume that surviving airlines will scoop up those hotels, sand possibly leasing aircraft short to med term to service capacity?
And finally, do you really believe that hoteliers simply rely on holidaymakers just from the UK? Trust me, they dont.

Ive seen plenty of German, Polish, British holiday makers in hotels ive stayed at in Greece, to say nothing of German Airlines et al landing at such airports.

Im not picking at you, just observing a few flaws in your post.

I meant to add as well that I'd say that perhaps the only thing that might put a predator off would be the debt pile we have. But then if they were to sell off the pubs for example at a discount, but keep the breweries & put the pub buyers under contract to buy and stock Marston's products, that might be something they'd consider doing. It's pure guesswork of course.

I can't say that I can rule any of that out. If a take over is on the cards, then right in the middle of a bear run would be the perfect time for a predator to strike. Grabbing a good solid business at bargain basement prices makes perfect logical sense. It's just the same as a private investor having a large amount of cash on the hip to invest. Now would be a good time to throw a chunk of money at their favourites to then either hold or sell during the bull run which will (eventually) come.

One point of yours I would differ slightly with is the one relating to the pubs we offloaded. Of course I get the point about our estate being reduced, but as I understand it they were low or poor performers, which of course begs the question of if they were assets or liabilities.

All of your other points of course, as usual seem reasonably accurate.

I'd have thought it would be prudent to do so myself.

Mind you if aircraft are grounded, then the time that they are not operating might be a good time for them to go in for inspections/service or general maintenence. But then WTFDIK?

I think it will. Dont forget Dart group also has that haulage firm (i think. I'm not invested here so only have limited knowledge of the Company). So they have the revenue from that too.

As I say, I'm not in here so I'd imagine holders would know more than me.

That said I managed to scrape up enough to buy 1000 stagecoach shares for less than a quid each.

I wouldn't have bet my house on being able to do that a month ago.

I've only ever been to Spain once, but was quite a while ago but didn't really take to the place as much as I thought I would to be fair. I much prefer Greece but that's just me. I'm sure plenty of people like it there and that's fine.

That said, I just figure that should Spain or anywhere else become a no go zone, I'd imagine that people will simply find somewhere else to go, and of course this means that they'll choose to go with the airline that offers the best deal.

I'm sure I may well have mentioned this already, but there's a particular hotel I like in Zakynthos, which is operated by tui, but they wanted north of £4k for it this year. More than a grand more than what we were charged last year & the year before.

That said I managed to pick off a hotel nearby for the 4 of us with jet2 which undercut this by just over a grand. Offering the best package will be all it boils down to in the end.
