The 24 March RNS states that 1st generated samples were shipped November 2023. The same RNS anticipated a $1M order for further materials of Gen 1 by 31st July 2024. The 2 July RNS confirmed the contract was not happening by 31st July. We also know both companies are discussing route to market on Gen2 and materials needed for it. We do not know if Gen1 is not being pursued by STM and we do not know if they completed their original evaluation of Gen1 or want to extend it. We know STM have all the cards and we await to see what they finally want to do in a few weeks time and that includes Gen2 work.

Just staying at this level for another quarter would set profits near all time records. 26M ounces of silver at say $29 = is 754M in revenue alone or around $312M profit before tax. Gold sales by the way double that figure. For the year they are likely to earn over $500M after taxes. That is 54p per share. 11 PE rate amongst the lowest it has been for years.

The tone is helpful to existing investors and new buyers at the low share price to be aware of the risk of investment here. In the past the management were hammered for over exaggerating the outcome of the Samsung settlement when investors were to over enthusiastic. Hence the tone changed when an outcome they expected had not materialised. Tone does matter, but we still have to await clarity from STM and whether another chip producer and their client needs a Nanoco product. The company has given the okay for somebody to go and visit potential clients which costs money on air flights, hotels and making those pitches and listening to the feedback they get back. This is a dynamic market and things can happen when personal contacts arise. Problems are discussed and some create solutions. It is sometimes serendipity and luck but you have to create that opportunity. We are partly awaiting and judging on that issue as well but at the same time not betting the kitchen sink on the outcome.

The Edison impact today has possibly helped create a floor under the share price. We shall see if Friday does bring in more buyers and whether the stock price can find its way to 15p. If it does, it suggests the current management are being given a small chance to prove they can deliver outputs. It is time we see how good certain people are in business development. The company should be telling us how many presentations they are doing with CEOs in a quarter, how many presentations they have given to a business audience, what new joint partnerships they have with academia. In other words, the pre-work that goes on before getting any contract income. Working the room at conferences can generate new ideas about problems to be solved and contracts are created that can possibly deliver solutions. None of this gives away secrets in passing some details back to us, but through demonstrating a wider set of outputs shows a CEO not just riding on the hard work of research staff delivering their results. Brian Tenner is not a R&D manager he is a CEO and he needs to recognise he has his own set of outputs that a wider community wants results.

I respect a lot of the contributions on this board and we have really intelligent folk here. It is up to all of us to note there is a wider readership and we focus on subject matter and reduce personal comments. Intelligent people do have different views.

I came back from Normandy late Sunday night and remembered a family member who gave his life at 21 just off Sword beach for us to value our precious freedom of which many in the UK exercised today by voting. I had shed loads of money on Shanta Gold and did well last financial year. Resolute is the nearest replacement I could find. It is the best performing gold miner on UK listings that I can see. It is earning shed loads.

I suspect Q2 profits may exceed those for all of 2023. Silver alone earned $60M plus and although gold ounces may be 5-10% or so lower. the profit margin on gold sales would be up 33%. This share should be 100p higher at least.

Edison have kept the door open regarding discussions between now and October. I will hold off selling what I have, but they are well and truly in the last chance saloon. If the CEO has a dud agreement with STM if they choose to exploit the technology without Nanoco, he has to go. If the CEO has another customer for what they have achieved and it can be used with STM support then the JDA had something worthwhile in it. One can only hope that STM has a longer term view with small companies and Nanoco gets some kind of future help. Otherwise Tenner will look like a complete idiot and other small companies will also not want to bite the bullet when working with STM in future. For 51 weeks the NGG chart has closed gaps with the UK FTSE 100 NG listing. Sometimes it can take two weeks to close a chart gaps but often it within a week or so. A sizeable set of gaps have appeared in the USA NGG chart this week partly as a result of holidays. There is a risk of pull back before advancement.

(Alliance News) - Nanoco Group PLC on Friday said it signed a statement of work with "significant" joint development activities with STMicroelectronics NV, a European electronics customer.

Nanoco is a Runcorn, England-based developer and manufacturer of cadmium-free quantum dots and other nanomaterials, while STMIcroelectronics is a Geneva, Switzerland-based semiconductor manufacturer.

Nanoco said the statement of work "helps to underpin the Board's expectations for non-license fee income in FY24, which are in line with FY23. The JDA is also expected to deliver additional sales of test materials during FY24 and FY25."

Chief Executive Officer Brian Tenner said: "Further production orders received for first generation sensing materials will be in parallel with this JDA. ST's commitment to developing a second generation material, emphasises Nanoco's ability to be a robust partner in complex electronics supply chains."

Signed statement of work or JDA is a glorified MOU ( memorandum of understanding). It has no legal binding at all.

Brian Tenner has been put out to dry. To give you all the bad news at once is not good form. So we have the info of no contracts this financial year and the word delayed is used in the update RNS under financial review. The bullet in the head RNS probably comes in October hence the company is searching for new clients which they should have done already or maybe they have and nobody is actually interested.

I gather EU is giving billions to STM for a new foundry facility in France. Why on earth bother with a plant in Runcorn.

NGR the RNS update was a head injury hospital pass in footie speak. We have no substitutes on the bench.

Well I have concerns how it may pan out after the election. With Labour having a big majority all kinds of arguments will erupt on where money gets spent. Decided to take profits this morning and will review NG in September as to go back in or not.

I noted LOAM and some senior staff had off-loaded 60% of their holding back in April and as it turned out I had done the same thing on Nanoco as I reduced my entire equity portfolio by 20% to fixed short term bonds.

The investment case here was the runcorn facility getting a manufacturing contract and there is no sign of that happening. I recall STM were building a plant in California last year. Nanoco was potentially considered as a possible back up manufacturing operation by someone contributing to this site. It may be possible that they may have an EU site with better tax benefits to source manufacturing.

In my view the Nanoco research staff have delivered their targets, but this CEO has failed spectacularly along with the Chairman. They had a manufacturing preliminary target of 1 for say a $1M and failed completely to get anything from anybody. This CEO is on a life style ticket of running down all the cash on R&D and will retire when it is all spent unless voted out. This company is going nowhere. Hopefully it can hold 14p for a few more months so I can get rid of the rest. What a massive disappointment the CEO is.
