More and more people are disbelieving the WHO data, as huge numbers of mild cases are not being tested, not recorded as recovered and so the mortality rate is wholly not credible. We hear of guesses in the community that differ by a factor of 5 just in London. We are not all invested to be owned by banks. There is route back to 85,000 barrels of production from Ghana development. The company will then become FCF positive again at $50 generating some $200M a year. The price of oil might rebound higher as world economies recover lost ground aiding faster pay down of debt. The company may still be able to do some exploration work with upside venture results. We do not know if any Uganda farm in is in play still after asset sales and if so we have a future of 230 2P assets being retained. We know from Total acquisition of its part of the Jubilee field that the Ghana asset has a material value after all leasing costs of kit to lift oil around $2.8B and its residual debt is $1.9B with a decommissioning bill cost of $150M or so in intermediate term years. With Non Ghana fields adding another $200M value we arrive at 52p. This is now lower than my previous estimated NAV as the company is possibly losing the $150M FCF we thought was possible to earn in 2020 due to the on-going oil price dispute.

As for Tullow, well they were chopping the cloth before the crisis happened. They have been doing just about everything that could be done. They have resolved issues with producing assets. They gave themselves a six month price shield. They have 4 months exposure and then a further two months price shield. The shield provides $125M of income and they can cancel Suriname drill for $40M and they have saved $20M on top. So if you have 9 Million barrels of oil price exposed to $25 loss that's $175M. So the shield holds to February 2021. A positive redetermination pays the 2021 debt and the deal is they can sell assets by early 2021 to recover that payment and guarantee 2022 debts. The risk is below $45 a barrel in March 2021 and whether losses accrue. We just two weeks away and its a case if you believe they can hold or not.

The self isolation is not all their lives but could be around six weeks on the basis of how China recovered without having all the knowledge we now have. I know that is hard to do and some business may be a able to shut up shop for 6 weeks but staff may have issues. Overall it may be a mixed strategy in the end but older people and young vulnerable people have a key role to play in this by trying to stay safe.

I believe this plays out differently when the older generation says it should not play out like this. Many will agree to self isolation programmes than see their society fall apart. Someone will take the hit than see younger people, their children and grandchildren suffer hardship. The compromise is a two week shut down that allows an older generation self containment programme to be delivered and rolled out and reduces transmission rates in the meantime. Older people ignoring the programme take that decision with their own consequences if they had a real choice in the matter. We have scientists and politicians looking at this issue in a way that protects one group at the expense of others. The concessionary view has to be articulated on how different groups are affected and there is no perfect answer. However the government may want to try the malaria drug that appears to work without a formal drug trial and plenty of older people would probably volunteer.

Brilliant news. Why sell resources at a loss!

Any lock down should be for 2 weeks. The hardship on younger people becomes to great. There comes a point where old people will plead for their isolation than see younger people suffer to lessen burden on hospitals. Older people do not want everybody to lose their dignity with this virus. A lot will say just have morphine ready instead of ECMO machines. It breaks one's heart to write that.

There is an alternative strategy to deal with Covid-19. Some older citizens like myself may feel uncomfortable with the hit on that younger generations may face in the light of this virus. It is a disease older persons could elect to avoid by agreeing to some extensive self isolation with some community support. Some older citizens may question the morality of extensive priority being given to them by the NHS at the expense of care given to younger people and older people choosing self isolation when other older citizens elect to take the risk of catching the disease by not changing their life style. In other words it may be better to keep everything open and business as usual for the younger generations as they may only experience the milder conditions of the virus. Why should they pay a large economic price to support the NHS that aids older people wanting all their freedoms with younger citizens making bigger sacrifices. Perhaps two weeks of lock down is enough and is an equitable compromise solution. Perhaps its up to older people to come out and say they do not want all this bias of resource focussed on them and a more balanced outcome which seems fair across all of society is perhaps a better solution. We often underestimate the bravery of many older people and their common sense and acceptance of making their own decisions and responsibilities in the face of this impending crisis as this. There perhaps needs to be a compromise that needs to be well explained with honesty from our politicians that they can not do everything then just muddle through a pretence. All the generations are being hit by this. Its important that perhaps all folks realise that we may need to concessions out of some degree of fairness to others.

Hence why we have 101p. Time to buy HOC is probably July. Hopefully they are not selling much of what they are mining in Q2 and occupy themselves with a lot of maintenance and down time instead. Why dig it out at such lousy prices instead just pile up juicy ore for later processing. Silver and HOC may be bottom in H1 but could do very well in H2.
