Increasing major growth sectors for electronic devices are now LPWAN (Automation, security, safety, productivity etc - ubiquitous sensors. Will be deployed in billions if fit-and-forget, affordable versions arrive) and SRWC (short wave wireless comms - Bluetooth, Zigbee etc - signals travel from a few cms to several metres, eg. infared, RF. Total many billions but that includes some of the others (? - LPWAN i presume) and many AC mains powered devices. EAS (electronic article surveillance) sector has had so far the largest battery need but internet shopping has made the retail shop security and garment tagging use of batteries decline.
Elsewhere came across Aowei, Chinese manufacturer, now In EU providing Skeleton type products for buses, renewables. Korchip (Korea) have just 2 products in a prismatic TR series.

Israeli start-up wireless charges devices that can include supercaps. (mentioned next to the image of the American Express card). The video shows items in a public toilet with soap dispensers and flushers that look ideal candidates for caps, god imagine , we would be flush in devices like that

It's interesting cpx's smd prototype was a "world first" (2013 presentation) and have not as yet released one, though a handful of others have; Panasonic, Kemet, Vishay. What these others have in common, unanimously, are higher voltage products (3.5v to 5.5) and higher ESR (lower esr caps dont heat up and last longer), whereas cpx's are set for 3v and 2.3. Amazing eh? Low power advantages, is it not?
