RE: Tremor Facts (NOT Earthquakes)1 Nov 2018 12:14
There is an American study that concludes the states that have fracking have a lower level of asthma than those that don't. That the dash for gas is better for the health than the slow costly path to renewables.
If you balance quakes under 2.0 VS reducing the incidence of asthma by upto 50% then clearly the social gain is worth the odd worrying shake that dies nothing on the surface.
Also the reduction in day to day costs can be ploughed into better health care, food, and research for the next wave of green tech.
I support green tech , But only if it costs in, even if it's 20% more. I don't support vanity projects, projects that take too long. Projects that don't scale up.
Examples
Fracked gas, converts to cheap electric. It works 24/7 low pollution . Small earth quakes. 5 yeas on stream.
Nuclear, decades to build. Clean electric, expensive, decommissioning cost. Works 24/7
Onshore wind, works when the wind blows, expensive, scaled up would swamp the landscape, needs battery
Offshore wind, expensive, scaled up would swamp the coast, workers mid to strong winds, needs battery
Solar, works in the summer, would swamp the landscape, costly, needs batteries for night.
Just as a point. I use 6x as much gas KW as Electric KW, a car would use the same as my curent electric.
So to go all electric. I need 8X my curent usage. So you need to increase the provision if green electric 16X to remove fossil fuels for the domestic household. You need to increase the cable & distribution network 5X
Most people can't afford that right away. My bills just gone up 30%. I'm on modist income. There is a danger that will have to be covered from savings not current account.
All electric would cost an eye watering £6000 per year! And those electric bills are rising as we add green vanity projects.
We are on a house hold income of under £20k. As are many UK households ( low paid, retired , disabled, etc)
Low disposable income leads to poorer health. Cramped housing, increased asthma and associated health issues.
So frack for health,
