I worked for a compamy with a Chinese agent about 25 years ago. He was always telling us that other Chinese organisations were telling him he had to organise everything in favour of the Chinese which put him under great pressure regarding his loyalty. I was pleased to see the recent statement regarding electric ship propulsion but disaappointed to see the engine depicted as being installed athwartships. Trouble at mill lads? there would be if it's ( Or they) are positioned that way around. As the ship rolls the oil in the sump will slosh from end to end, starving the oil pumps and sucking air. Even baffles and multiple pumps won't solve the problem. Was this a clever marketing ploy not censored by the engineering department or just lack of basic marine knowledge.
I'm not making it up. Three container ships with three gensets each were mounted this way about twenty years ago causing so much trouble with engine bearings that the engine rooms had to be reconfigured with the engines placed fore and aft.
Hope the 'real' ships won't have the engines placed this way!
Give the publicity boys a free hand and they can really drop you in it.

That's alright providing the approval comes from Derby Rolls Royce engineers who are moved to Germany for a few days at a time!

We are shipwatching because we like ships, their diversification of designs and their functions, not like motor cars which are built down to a cost and all look the same, exceptions being Bentley etc and the like. We are also heavily reliant on ships to progress this project, our monies are invested in them. We want to know they are being handled professionally and they're not going to get damaged or sink putting this project right back..

Time isn't a factor. Safety and fulfilment of the regulations to the owners, builders, machinery suppliers, classification society, etc, pass requirements will be. Each society has different rules and levels of requirements, Germanischer Lloyd being the hardest, or was.
One disastrous, two, trials I attended ended up in 13 trials due to malfunctions of various bits of kit, hull, engines, electronics, leaving us drifting in the Humber twice. The tanker unfortunately sank 15 years later. One trial is the norm but two or three can happen.
This is not a newbuild but a refurb. so,hopefully there will only be one.
Sea trials are serious business, lives can eventually be at stake.

Suggest you look at DNV commisioning requirements.

If you can get solar panels to 90% that is a magnificent improvement as they are only about 18% currently. I believe one of the Birmingham universities was playing with 21%. I'm talking solar energy in - electrical energy out.

Little activity at the moment so no sp change. Possibly a slow pickup when activities start, but too slow for tra.ders. May change over time as shares do. Long term change - who knows.
