Trucks requiring large doses of.high load energy ( maybe hydrogen being an alternative fuel with high energy density). Marine diesel engines, up to 100,000 bhp each. Base load electric generation (massive), factory power plant electric generator back up when the grid fails, nuclear power station emergency diesel pumps to cool the nuclear pile when the main pump electricity supply fails. etc, etc . Then there is machinery and transformer cooling,

Some applications will be replaced by gas, plenty coming from Russia at the moment, lots to come worldwide. There are already electric propulsion ferries around the world, integrated propulsion systems on ships, warships.
But we can't introduce electric propulsion wholesale unless we produce electric power which means governments have to get together to facilitate the infrastructures required.
So we're stuck with oil and gas for many years to come.

In my experience, there is always an additional angle to consider when discussing and negotiating with the Chinese. Any discussions always involve members of the Party, whether technical, commercial, social, financial..In these discussions before any progress is made members of the group always refer to the Party members in the group.
Counter proposals may be made which means rewriting the contract with new costings, always reducuing the content and driving the price down.
The big decision is not made at the meetings, but a lot of discussions obviously take place back home. A counter proposal appears weeks afterwards and a new price has to be agreed with their revised programme. Obviously this takes time and could go around and around until final agreement some weeks or months later.
Better to wait for a good deal than rush a bad deal..
