Shares in Greatland Gold (GGP) jumped 10 per this morning after the company reported “very significant extension opportunities” at one of its key mines.

According to a new mineral resource estimate, the Telfer mine in Western Australia contains 3.2mn ounces of gold and 117,000 tonnes of copper. When Greatland bought Telfer last year, it planned to produce just 374,000 ounces of gold and 13,000 tonnes of copper over 15 months.

Managing director Shaun Day said: “This exceptional outcome is a testament to the significant opportunities we saw at Telfer during our acquisition due diligence, and the excellent work of our team to progress and validate those opportunities in short order.”

Greatland’s total mineral resources now stand at more than 10.2mn ounces of gold and 387,000 tonnes of copper.

Greatland Gold shares jumped on Tuesday after the company confirmed the expansion of its mineral resource portfolio following its acquisition of the Telfer gold-copper mine.

Greatland’s total Group Mineral Resources are now 10.2 million ounces of gold and 387,000 tonnes of copper, making it one of Australia’s leading gold miners in terms of resources.

The uplift came as the inaugural Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE) for the Telfer mine confirmed it will contribute 3.2 million ounces of gold and 117,000 tonnes of copper to Greatland’s resource base.

Greatland shares were 8% higher at the time of writing and had touched the highest point for more than a year.

The Telfer MRE comprises three key components: the West Dome Open Pit, which contains 2.1 million ounces of gold and 61,000 tonnes of copper; the Main Dome Underground, contributing 700,000 ounces of gold and 40,000 tonnes of copper; and existing stockpiles, which hold a further 400,000 ounces of gold and 16,000 tonnes of copper.

Notably, 46% of the gold in the Telfer resource falls within the Measured or Indicated categories, representing 1.4 million ounces of gold and 62,000 tonnes of copper....

The update confirms 10.2 million ounces of gold and 387,000 tonnes of copper, significantly expanding the company's resource base.

Day highlighted that more than 55% of these resources fall under the measured and indicated category, allowing for future conversion to reserves. The company has also added 3.2 million ounces of gold and 117,000 tonnes of copper at the Telfer mine, strengthening its position in the market. "The size of the prize here in terms of life extension is really significant," he stated.

The CEO also discussed Greatland Gold’s upcoming ASX listing, set for June 2025, which will broaden investor access and enhance market visibility. "We believe this cross-listing will unlock new demand from Australian investors and provide indexation benefits while maintaining our London listing," Day explained.

Additionally, the company is ramping up exploration with six drill rigs in operation, aiming to further extend Telfer’s mine life and identify new mineralisation zones. Upcoming milestones include the March quarterly results in April and a reserve update later in the year.

Cutoffs for the Telfer MRE are applied based on a NSR using metal prices of A$3,450/oz Au and A$5.30/lb Cu for the West Dome cutback & stockpiles and A$3,150/oz and A$5.30/lb for the Main Dome underground. Cutoffs for the Havieron Deposit Mineral Resources were also based on a NSR using metal prices of A$2,360/oz Au and A$5.20/lb Cu.
