Yes, I recently added after the big fall due to cladding controversy - seemed overdone. I'm also topping up on other high divi-payers with upside SP potential; DEC, IMB, LGEN, MNG. Good to see a small jump in the SP today for PSN, though I can find no particular news to rationalise....?

Loaf, you did well. I was tempted to do the same but ended up buying more DEC on Fri. I'm considering moving my entire pension fund to high dividend paying stocks over time. This means I can make annual withdrawals while keeping my capital more or less intact. The danger is another black swan event like March 2020 when most dividends were cut. My thinking is that I will probably top up IMB on Monday, having taken profits on MSFT etc on Friday. My recent additions have been MNG and PSN...and EVRAZ...big upcoming divi! I never recommend shares to other people. This is just a record of what I have been doing. All the usual acronyms.

Looking at my portfolio, FTSE stocks hammered yet Nasdaq on the rise. Simple explanation I think is that UK could get dragged into a conflict. MSFT, AAPL and the likes are remote from such a conflict. Same with RIO today; most operations based in Australia. It's about Geography. My humble opinion!

There is no logic to this drop in SP today except perhaps automatic selling of FTSE 100 stocks. I'm selling some U.S shares with a view to buying more IMB tomorrow.

Paul. Agreed. Extremely odd. One would expect a rise in the SP in the lead in to a substantial dividend like this next one. I'm bamboozled. Perhaps the market was expecting better? Maybe some macro factors involved?; AAL are also down today and they report tomorrow....but then GLEN and BHP are up.

My answer / opinion: Lack of interest. The next two divis are smaller. I see this SP as being weak over the next 6 months. I genuinely plan to add to my holding during the summer. I won't trade.

Well, I am moving from under-performing stocks to dividend payers. I added based on yield and some confidence that there will be no further placing of shares at below current share price. I have a medium term strategy of moving from funds to dividend stocks. I can afford to hold for a few years at least. Time will tell. Even with 15% withholding tax, the yield is excellent for me.

Jing it confirms my personal theory that the 'divi dodge' works if there has been a recent downward trend in SP; i.e some existing shareholders use the ex div date as an exit. If there has been a recent upward trend then sentiment dictates that new shareholders will use it as an entry point. This is my own humble opinion based on observation over the last couple of years. I also think that because the next two dividends are the two smaller ones, there will be less of an upward trend until we approach the Nov. ex d date. All based on my own speculation on shareholder psychology and observation. So interesting though! Still learning.

AliveKicking I like your post. I find the interpersonal mudslinging on some boards irritating and I just scroll past. I like to read peoples opinions on dividend strategies. I will hold IMB for the dividend and I have decided to do the opposite of the 'dividend dodge' strategy discussed previously on this board. IMB is one of my biggest holdings. I plan on transferring funds to my stockbroking account and if IMB falls by significantly more than the dividend amount I may buy more.10% return can't be ignored. I think dividend strategy depends on ones time horizon and I'm looking forward about 5 years. It seems like a no-brainer to me unless another black swan event occurs. ATB.

Nervousnelly you seem to be assuming that inflation will run at this level for years to come. Seems unlikely.

Putin has said repeatedly that Russia will NOT invade Ukraine. His international reputation is important to him. The U.S. is insisting that Russia will invade on Wednesday. They haven't specified whether it will be morning or afternoon. The dogs in Chernobyl know he won't invade.

Yes, the dog of my portfolio has taken off like a greyhound. I'd love to know what's driving this; maybe it is indeed PI's hedging against inflation, maybe it's the run up to the large quarterly divi payment (but if that's the case why not the same last Nov?). Or maybe it is some other factor - for example that Billionaire investor who has been reportedly accumulating a stake in both IMB and BATS; perhaps adding more and not revealed to the market yet. Whichever, I personally think that the 'divi dodge' strategy looks too dangerous on this occasion! I have been tempted to sell over the last few days but I have psychologically glued my itchy fingers to the table! Requires a decision: Am I a trader or a long term investor? I choose the latter and hope I'm right!
