Some Swedish Government figures this morning -
Interest rates remain at zero percent, no surprises there.
Unemployment continues to rise, now @ 10%.
Trade balance continues to decline with exports falling from 6.0B to 4.1B SEK.

No doubt this lot are hanging on until 2022 where like most other governments there will be lots of giveaways before the election.

I'm led to believe the choice is issue more shares or pay bonuses/share save schemes etc out of profits, which in turn means less monies for dividends.

UK bank branch penetration is now the second lowest in Europe and stand's below 7000 branches, that includes building society branches.
The current branch penetration rate is now a little over ten branches per 100,000 making the UK the second lowest rate of major European markets.
The lowest comparable rate is the Netherlands with a branch density of just under nine branches per 100,000.
Even Denmark and Sweden, with around 13 branches per 100,000 have more branches per head of population than the UK.
At the other end of the scale Spain (58), France (52) and Italy (44) remain over-branched.
A similar trend is happening with the number of ATM's per 100,000 adults reducing year on year from a peak of 134 in 2015.

The Government is coming under increasing pressure to introduce legislation that will ensure nationwide access to cash and banking services.
Some experts now fear that unless the Government acts soon, the country's cash system could collapse within the next 12 to 24 months, leaving more than five million adults reliant on cash financially excluded. It would also be catastrophic for many small businesses that are still heavily dependent on cash sales.

I see that more and more companies are choosing to repay their furlough grants. Although under no obligation to do so, it is treated as income and therefore subject to any tax due, (every little helps).
I know Lloyds opted out of the furlough scheme and was castigated by some, but it may have been a wise move.
Whilst others have taken advantage and may now feel it correct to pay back the monies, they might still have excess staff to their needs. Not good for a major brand laying staff off directly after furlough ends, the unions will certainly give them the bad publicity.
Meanwhile LBG have been quietly reducing their staff as and when with no obvious recriminations.
Like I said could have be a wise move.

Yes, China said they don't want to replace the dollar with a digital Yuan, not that you can believe much that comes out of China.
It seems it is their intention to launch some sort of digital currency internally at least.

It goes on "government-backed mortgage scheme" I assume as it's government backed it's not lloyds backed and the high street lenders will be reimbursed for any defaults providing the background checks have been carried out properly.

A new government-backed mortgage scheme to help people with 5% deposits get on to the housing ladder is available to lenders from today (19 April 2021).

First announced at the Budget, the scheme will help first time buyers or current homeowners secure a mortgage with just a 5% deposit to buy a house of up to £600,000 – providing an affordable route to home ownership for aspiring home-owners.

The government will offer lenders the guarantee they need to provide mortgages that cover the other 95%, subject to the usual affordability checks.

The scheme is now available from lenders on high streets across the country, with Lloyds, Santander, Barclays, HSBC and NatWest launching mortgages under the scheme today and Virgin Money following next month.
