There are plenty of countries investing in renewables, California has been has been since 1996 and is in fact so successful with solar generation they have stopped paying customers fir it because they generate too much and can’t use it efficiently.

It’s no problem being sceptical but the problem is your scepticism closes your thinking off to the benefits of renewables.

What about the pollution element.

London is a much nicer city to visit now that they have low emission zones, surely you can’t deny that.

Remember the 2008 olympics and the birds nest covered in smog……

Then we have the electric price linked to the gas price which is why we have the highest electric prices in Europe.

FF aren’t the cheapest option, solar and wind are way cheaper.

Renewables have an infrastructure to build, the FF infrastructure has been around for 150 years obviously that will skew figures.

I’m going to make decisions that are best for my family and that includes financial ones.

I pay more in taxes than I take out so not sure how you can justify saying the tax payer is subsidising me.

The problem with the uk is we subsidise too many people, who do bu**er all, which is why I will leave as soon as our children finish their education which the state hasn’t contributed to at all.

The energy crisis in 2022/23 was an absolute joke.

No one should have to think whether they can afford to put the heating on.

Taking the heating allowance off pensioners is a disgrace.

As usual we disagree on the way forward of future energy.

Technology and reducing FF use is the way forward imo, continuing with gas, coal etc is your view.

I don’t get the connection of stating I’ve bought into heat pumps etc and the link I come across better off than other posters.

I Invested in electrification to save money and when I did I looked at further ways to bring our costs down.

It’s a tenuous link to say I’ve done well in life because I have done heat pumps ….i really don’t get that link.

Yet I don’t see you challenging posters like red knight or BBG who continually boast how many millions of shares they have in solg and what they will spend their riches on when this hits multiples of a £

Coal fired power stations have been the back up of choice when demand has been close to capacity, over the past 2 winters when grid black outs have been a possibility users have been paid to reduce demand. The staggering cost of firing up coal power stations was evidenced by the fact consumers like myself were paid £100 an hour to reduce consumption.

I don’t disagree that some fossil fuel use is needed during the transition.

Storage is the future that negates the intermittent production of renewables……

I have 2 ASHPs, they cost £7.5k and the tax payer didn’t subsidise it, only because the plumber messed the application up, however not withstanding that switching to ashp’s during the Ukraine spike in gas prices and being able to access off peak electric has been very beneficial.

Personally I wouldn’t want a pylon in our back garden, but pylons have been around for an extremely long time as most houses need an electricity supply, so not really sure what your point is……

There again I wouldn’t want to live next to a coal fired power station either ……or a wind turbine but I don’t need to

This country does a lot of things poorly, energy just one of many.

Scandinavian countries don’t seem to have an issue with expensive electric heat pumps.

When I was in California last year Tesla were giving away power walls, solar etc

I’m not going to keep on saying how cheap electrification has been for me but I’m paying less for electric per unit than I did 4 years ago

I can only go from my experience and it’s been good, I get consumers are sceptical.

I totally agree with the ridiculous cost of public charging even before you add the inconvenience of waiting.

The uk needs to get its act together and have a coherent strategy……. paying wind farm operators billions to turn turbines off because they can’t use the energy is a joke!!!!!
