The way I see it is Qualcomm are selling Snapdragon platform. SEE are a preferred supplier but they dont (atm sell DMS as far as iam aware) Its then between the OEM and Tier1 who they use.

If Aptiv were the T1 and the OEM said we dont care who we use, the T1 will use who they want. If the OEM says dont want use them or name a specific they will use them. If the T1 comes back with 2 prices then they may be swung on cost or features?

Using the wide field of view camera to monitor both driver and front-seat passenger with Seeing Machines' DMS/OMS technology, the demonstration will introduce a host of new features, including seat occupancy detection, body pose tracking and cell phone detection. These features will be available, supported by the Company's industry leading measurement of driver attention state, engagement level, impairment level and system diagnostics, in line with the protocols recently introduced by Euro NCAP (New Car Assessment Program) to achieve safety ratings.



The work between Seeing Machines and Qualcomm Technologies continues to grow as Seeing Machines expects to integrate these and a range of new features into the Snapdragon ADP, as well as the Snapdragon Ride™ Platform by mid-2022.

Qualcomm may have an edge on steering someone but wont want loose business on selling their stuff if the T1 wants use someone else IMO.

SEYE seem to have Aptiv as main but will be used by other T1s, same as us no doubt outside our main ones.

Qualcomm will give us an edge but not a guarantee that we win everything they are in. Lots of other factors come into play..

With 65,000 orders declared upto last month already should do well for sales. Only building 42,400 this Year max but 2024 and Magna building them it should add nicely to the TPis B4 the 2nd model starts.

Just been researching his previous job at Altium. When he joined in Jan 2004 the SP was A$0.45 and for the next few years bounced around upto $1.34 and as low as $0.09. Only in 2012 did it start climbing more consistently.

In 2017 it hit $10, then $20 in 2018. Peaked at $41.82 in Feb 2020. Since then its bounced around in the $25-43 region and currently $37/38

I wonder where & when in his employment cycle he bought? From lowest to highest its over a 400x bagger. Chances are no one buys $10k and sells at $4million but nice climb even at 50c-$40 is 80x

Lets hope his good luck rubs off here with a multiple bagger. Just not over such a long timeframe though. :)

In the Q4 conference call, management reiterated that most of the measures were implemented already in Q4 2022. Then, the remaining cost cuts will be completed during Q1. No one-off costs are expected to incur as the cost base consisted of consultants. Management and board committed to reaching breakeven-target – will cut more costs if needed
To become cashflow positive in H2 2024, Smart Eye’s management and board of directors have implemented stricter quarterly budget meeting to make sure the company won’t require additional cash.
Management also states that it is committed to reach its target – and stated in the Q4 conference call that it will cut more costs if needed to become cash flow positive in H2 2024.

First order for heavy trucks – a promising sub-segment of DMS
On 27 February, Smart Eye announced its first design wins for medium and heavy trucks ever. The initial order is worth SEK150m with an additional potential of SEK400m. A typical truck is produced over ten years, so this deal spans this period.
The deal is for ‘normal’ DMS (software only) rather than AIS (hardware + software). However, the feature set for these heavier trucks is likely substantially more advanced than a typical car’s. Hence, we estimate the average selling price (ASP) to be at least 50% higher than for a car.
The end customer is said to be a global manufacturer of heavy vehicles headquartered in Europe. The customer is also said to have three 'renowned' brands. Considering that Traton consists of the three 'renowned brands’ MAN, Scania, Volkswagen (and then the less well-known Navistar and Rio), we think the customer is Traton.
Considering that all heavy trucks produced in Europe are also obliged to include DMS by 2026 (and all new models from 2024), we think this is the first among several large tenders for heavy trucks. Apart from Traton, the two major European players to look out for are Volvo and Daimler/Mercedes.

Hardware partner in the deal was Qualcomm - a big positive for Smart Eye
An important detail about this deal is that Smart Eye’s processor partner is Qualcomm – indicating that Seeing Machines’ ‘alliance’ with Qualcomm is weaker than we previously had feared. This is very positive for Smart Eye.
Previously, we considered the alliance between Seeing Machines and Qualcomm as a possible threat to Smart Eye’s market dominance. The rationale behind this was the following:
Seeing Machines has developed its DMS software specifically to fit Qualcomm, whereas Smart Eye has chosen a hardware-agnostic approach, meaning it can work with any processor.
Qualcomm has appeared to gain substantial traction with its new Snapdragon Processor.
If Seeing Machines were Qualcomm’s ‘preferred DMS partner,’ it could have implied several wins for Seeing Machines because Qualcomm + Seeing Machines were viewed as a package deal.
However, the Ford deal for Smart Eye kills this above thesis, we think. As such, we are becoming much more confident in our estimates of market share for the following years. In fact, we are starting to think they might be a bit conservative.
Old GM win is also together with Qualcomm
As we have previously stated, we are quite certain that Smart Eye has won several design wins with General Motors (GM). Among the models is the Cadillac Lyriq, which was showcased during CES 2023 in January. We think the DMS of this model belongs to Smart Eye. Also, it was said that Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processor is the hardware used. As such, we think this is just one of several examples of Smart Eye and Qualcomm teaming up.

The market for DMS is an oligopoly. While Smart Eye is the market leader, main competitor Seeing Machines offers strong competition. While Smart Eye's software is hardware agnostic, Seeing Machines has chosen to specialize its software to some specific processors over the years, currently with a close partnership with Qualcomm. While it's a risky move to bet everything on one horse, should Qualcomm's processor be the leader, Seeing Machines could take over the market leadership in DMS.

They write a good story but i notice they seem to have stopped using

We think the stock market still mistrusts Smart Eye after the company mishandled its capital situation.

It is often assumed that consumers want partial driving automation in their vehicles, yet there has been little research on the topic. Also unclear is what the public’s appetite is for hands-free driving capability, automated (auto)-lane-change functionality, and driver monitoring that helps reinforce proper use of these features. Through an internet-based survey of a nationally representative sample of 1,010 U.S. adult drivers, this study explored consumer demand for different aspects of partial driving automation. Eighty percent of drivers want to use lane centering, but more prefer versions with a hands-on-wheel requirement (36%) than hands-free (27%). More than half of drivers are comfortable with different driver monitoring strategies, but comfort level is related to perceptions of feeling safer with it given its role in helping drivers use the technology properly. People who prefer hands-free lane centering are the most accepting of other vehicle technologies, including driver monitoring, but some also indicate an intent to misuse these features. The public is somewhat more reluctant to accept auto lane change, with 73% saying they would use it, and more often prefer it to be driver-initiated (45%) than vehicle-initiated (14%). More than three quarters of drivers want auto lane change to have a hands-on-wheel requirement. Conclusion: Consumers are interested in partial driving automation, but there is resistance to more sophisticated functionality, especially vehicle-initiated auto lane change, in a vehicle that cannot technically drive itself. This study confirms the public’s appetite for partial driving automation and possible intention for misuse. It is imperative that the technology be designed in ways that deter such misuse. The data suggest that consumer information, including marketing, has a role to play to communicate the purpose and safety value of driver monitoring and other user-centric design safeguards to promote their implementation, acceptance, and safe adoption.
