Yesterday Aussie-based DMS producer Seeing Machines announced a design win with a major US-based automaker. It’s third US automaker and sixth OEM (original equipment manufacturer i.e. a car manufacturer) globally for deployment of its FOVIO DMS Chip solution.

The mass-production car model is scheduled from late 2020 and has an estimated lifetime revenue of 6 million Australian Dollar (AUD). Great news for the DMS industry!
Nick DiFore, general manager of automotive at Seeing Machines, elaborates that they also see a “substantial and growing demand” for their DMS technology globally, as regulation accelerates and starts to play a key role in improving safety across “all transport sectors”.

In comparison, Seeing Machine’s main competitor Swedish-based Smart Eye has a total of 43 design wins, with six different OEM:s. Two of which are named and are BMW and Geely.
Seeing Machines is listed on AIM (formerly Alternative Investment Market), a sub-market of the London Stock Exchange. Smart Eye in turn is listed on Nasdaq First North, a division of Nasdaq Nordic.

EU site says it, so ithink its just the legal process to rubber stamp. The proposals go back to May and then amemded in November/December ready for todays vote.
Safety features such as intelligent speed assistance, advanced emergency-braking system and emergency stop signal will have to be installed in new vehicles.
In a drive to reduce the number of fatalities and injuries on EU roads, Internal Market Committee MEPs approved on Thursday a set of rules to make several advanced safety features standard equipment in different categories of vehicles sold in the EU market. The proposal adapts the current rules to the changes in mobility behaviour resulting from societal trends (e.g. more cyclists and pedestrians, an aging society) and technological developments.

The advanced safety features which will become mandatory in all vehicles are:

The amended proposal was approved in committee by 33 votes to two, with no abstentions. The mandate to start negotiations with Council, endorsed by 31 votes to three, with no abstentions, is due to get the full House’s green light in the 11-14 March plenary session.

The advanced safety features which will become mandatory in all vehicles are:

intelligent speed assistance;
alcohol interlock installation facilitation (i.e. a standardised interface facilitating aftermarket alcohol interlock devices being fitted in vehicles);
driver drowsiness and attention warning;
advanced driver distraction warning;
emergency stop signal;
reversing detection;
accident data recorder, added by MEPs (under the Commission proposal only cars and vans would have to be equipped with it).
Next steps

The amended proposal was approved in committee by 33 votes to two, with no abstentions. The mandate to start negotiations with Council, endorsed by 31 votes to three, with no abstentions, is due to get the full House’s green light in the 11-14 March plenary session.

The implementation dates for the different safety requirements are specified in Annex II of the proposed regulation, which was also amended by MEPs to speed up their application.

Once approved, this legislation will replace the current General Vehicle Safety Regulation, the Pedestrian Protection Regulation and the Hydrogen-Powered Motor Vehicles Regulation.

A key committee of MEPs has voted through a range of new mandatory vehicle safety standards that could apply to new vehicle models within three years.

Members of the European Parliament’s Committee on Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO) voted today to approve a range of new vehicle safety standards initially proposed by the European Commission in May last year.

The measures include new crash testing requirements, mandatory installation of driver assistance systems including Automated Emergency Braking (AEB) with pedestrian and cyclist detection, overridable Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA) and Lane Keep Assistance (LKA), as well as a new direct vision standard for lorries and buses to enable drivers to have a better view of other road users around their vehicle.

“This is a landmark day for road safety,” said Josh Harris, director of campaigns for Brake. “The European Parliament has voted through life-saving safety standards for all new vehicles, which could save 25,000 lives in fifteen years.

Yes in light of all thats going on surely be right to re asses existing contracts to the new estimates. But maybe SEE will do after announcing some more wins?

The Industry is ahead of the legislation anyway but having DMS in every vehicle manadated after say 2022 will only increase units sold and take DMS from a marketing and safety tool in the more expensive models to mainstream.
We know the market not caught up with SEE for years mostly. Imagine an Oil Company in charge of 5/9 of the major oil wells in the World with regard to supply.
Sure the Worlds media will be reporting it over next few days so hopefully it does the same as its May 18th last year news and started a climb up.

A whitepaper describing the elaborate safety procedures used in Apple’s automated car development program seems intended to assure government regulators and the public that the company is making every effort to prevent accidents.
Test cars involved in this program have been in just two accidents, and in one of them the computer wasn’t even driving. Nevertheless, a report last week that indicating that these cars average only about 1.1 miles before a human driver needs to take over from the computer might have raised some concerns.

The car companies already putting it in. The industry ahead of legislation on this. As long as the package gets through at some level will get massive press and PR around the world in mainstream media. A product a car must have is better than a product that just car companies want on a SP iam sure.
