With SEYE down nearly 9% today I wonder what the market knows? Couple more bad days like today and they will be half of what they were recently.

WARREN, Mich. -- General Motors plans to cash in as the world switches from combustion engines to battery power, promising to double its annual revenue by 2030 with an array of new electric vehicles, profitable gas-powered cars and trucks, and services such as an electronic driving system that can handle most tasks on the road.

In announcements Wednesday ahead of a two-day investor event in suburban Detroit, the company also pledged to unseat Tesla and become the electric vehicle market share leader in U.S., although no time frame was given.

The UK’s largest fleet leasing company, Lex Autolease, will develop a series of connected vehicle services and solutions for clients, after signing a long-term agreement with telematics company Masternaut, part of the Michelin Group.

The partnership will see Lloyds Banking Group-owned Lex Autolease, which runs more than 350,000 vehicles, offer its customers fleet management solutions based on Masternaut’s telematics technology, giving fleets the tools to reduce fuel consumption, cut C02 emissions and save money, as well as enhance the safety of their drivers.

The technology will also help Lex Autolease’s light commercial vehicle clients to transition their van fleets to electric power.

Moreover, by collecting maintenance data directly from cars and vans, Lex Autolease will be better able to manage its fleet proactively. In addition, a new vehicle check app allows drivers to report issues with the vehicles and track the status of repairs.

Qualcomm makes a multi-billion-dollar bet on cars

Qualcomm said that on completion of the deal, sometime next year, it will incorporate Arriver’s Computer Vision, Drive Policy and Driver Assistance assets into its Snapdragon Ride ADAS solution, a move that will help it to provide an open and competitive ADAS platform for automakers and tier-1s at scale.

Qualcomm unveiled Snapdragon Ride at CES in early 2020, demonstrating the importance of autonomous driving to its strategic direction. Almost two years on and it is moving to augment the platform in a big way.

Arriver is wholly owned by Veoneer, but was created at the start of this year in partnership with Qualcomm to house the firm’s Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), collaborative and autonomous driving software and systems operations. Given their history, it makes sense for Qualcomm to become the unit’s new owner, something that was pointed out by Qualcomm’s boss.

“Qualcomm is the natural owner of Arriver,” said Cristiano Amon, president and CEO of Qualcomm. “By integrating these assets, Qualcomm accelerates its ability to deliver a leading and horizontal ADAS solution as part of its digital chassis platform,” he said. “We believe that this transaction and structure benefits both Qualcomm’s and Veoneer’s shareholders, positions all of Veoneer’s businesses for success and provides a compelling opportunity to customers and employees.”

Tesla is growing while other auto makers are struggling to build cars due to a shortage of microchips. How come?

The data is easy to grasp even if the reason for the results remains mysterious.

General Motors (ticker: GM) U.S. dealers delivered 446,997 vehicles in the U.S. in the third quarter of 2021, down 218,195 units, or almost 33%. Tesla (TSLA) delivered 241,300 vehicles in the third quarter, more than investors expected and up about 73% compared with the third quarter of 2020.

Tesla investors expected growth and got it. For GM, it was a steep drop, but not an unexpected one. GM warned investors in the middle of the quarter unit shipments would be down about 200,000 units. The chip shortage is the reason GM management saw the drop coming. A global shortage of automotive semiconductors has roiled the industry all year and will end up trimming global light vehicle production by about 5 million to 6 million units.
