With all automakers developing self-driving cars, there has been a high demand for camera-based SoCs and computer vision technology in recent times. Ambarella, being an AI silicon company, has deep technical knowledge in camera-based SoCs and enhanced computer vision capabilities. The growing demand for an advanced driving assistance system (ADAS) is likely to act as a key catalyst for the company’s near-term growth.

Valeo has been ranked the world’s leading French patent applicant, with 1,777 patents issued in one year, including 46% in France. This is as per the rankings published by the France's intellectual property institute (INPI), which lists the first applications granted by the world's main patent offices.

Valeo has also come third in the 2021 ranking of patent applicants in France, with a total of 721 patents. Its innovations are now protected by a portfolio of almost 35,000 patents worldwide.

Since its launch, the Ford BlueCruise hands-free highway driving feature has proven to be quite popular among drivers who pony up for the option, as those folks have already racked up 4.5 million miles with it activated. Ford BlueCruise tech has also received plenty of praise from a variety of sources, including Consumer Reports, which gave it high marks in most every area, as well as AAA. Recently, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) announced that it will bestow safety ratings on systems like BlueCruise, but now, a new study from that same organization has found that this sort of tech might be a bit too automated for most motorists.

“The drivers who were the most comfortable with all types of driver monitoring tended to say they would feel safer knowing that the vehicle was monitoring them to ensure they were using the feature properly,” said Alexandra Mueller, the survey’s primary designer. “That suggests that communicating the safety rationale for monitoring may help to ease consumers’ concerns about privacy or other objections.”

The vast majority of electric vehicle startups to emerge from China in recent years will inevitably fail but one company seemingly going from strength to strength is Xpeng. In fact, the car manufacturer recently produced its 200,000th vehicle.

The Chinese automaker was founded in 2014 and built its very first production vehicle in December 2018. It took Xpeng until October 2021 before it had built 100,000 vehicles but now, just eight months later, it has built another 100,000 EVs, even though the automotive industry continues to face Covid-related restrictions and supply chain shortages.

The US chip giant Qualcomm Technologies Inc is deepening relationship with Chinese internet of vehicles company PATEO in the automotive intelligent ****pit field.

Based on Qualcomm's 4th Generation Snapdragon ****pit platforms, Qualcomm and PATEO will expand their ties to develop solutions to support vehicle intelligence, smart car connectivity, service-oriented architecture, intelligent ****pit and multi-domain fusion-based central controller.

The move is aimed at facilitating the mass production of the next-generation PATEO Qinggan intelligent ****pit platform solution, offering the automotive industry a cutting-edge immersive intelligent driving and riding experience.

Founded in 2009 in Shanghai, PATEO said it possesses five core technologies of operating system, intelligent voice, hardware, map and cloud platform, and it is mainly engaged in the research and development and manufacturing of intelligent telematics system and providing subsequent supporting services.

While stingy with details about the TX line, the company has released information about some of its technological features. Lexus said the TX is an urban midsized SUV that will offer remote parking, allowing the driver to park from outside the vehicle using a smartphone or digital key.

Additionally, the TX line will allow for hands-free driving under certain conditions, thought to be similar to systems currently found on the GM Super Cruise and the Ford Blue Cruise.

A new IIHS report shows that drivers are aware of the risks of driver distraction, and want help staying engaged while their cars automate some tasks

Drivers want automation on their cars, and they want their cars to help them use that automation safely, a new survey from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety suggests.

When the road safety advocacy group asked drivers about advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS) such as lane centering assist (LCA), automatic lane changing, and driver monitoring, respondents said they wanted the features—but they also indicated that they wanted to remain engaged behind the wheel.

Already, experts at the IIHS, Consumer Reports, AAA, and the National Transportation Safety Board say driver monitoring can make automation safer behind the wheel. These survey results show that drivers want driver monitoring features as well.

Many drivers told the IIHS that they were interested in LCA, a feature that continuously centers a vehicle within its lane. But among those who wanted lane centering, the majority of drivers said they would feel safer knowing that the vehicle was monitoring them to make sure they were using the feature as it was designed to be used. And they told the IIHS that they knew they’d be more likely to become distracted or perform other tasks—such as texting—while using a “hands free” LCA system.

“The amount of people on our [2023 Cadillac Lyriq] waitlist far exceeded our expectations,” Kristin Lewis, Lyriq marketing manager, explained during a presentation attended by GM Authority. She added that

The change will go into effect at noon Eastern Time on June 22nd. At the same time, all subsequent pre-orders will be moved to the 2024 model year.

As GM Authority covered previously, GM began accepting orders for the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq in May. Although called pre-orders, Cadillac considers these to be more like “reservations,” with customers handing over a refundable $100 charge to hold their spot in line. These pre-orders, which filled up quite quickly, then turn into real orders once the dealer confirms the order and various options with the customer.

Distracted driving is a huge problem today contributing to many crashes and vehicle fatalities every year. This project focused on identifying driver distraction using Driver Monitoring System data and vehicle kinematic parameters. The research team developed a set of benchmark driving events and reviewed them to determine drivers’ distraction levels. A series of algorithms were developed and assessed using these benchmark events, including both buffer-based attention algorithms and deep neural networks based models. This seminar will discuss the creation of benchmark events and the challenges associated with identifying driver distractions manually. Also included in the topics will be the development and performance of the algorithms in question as well as a discussion of some key points to take into account when trying to assess driver attentiveness using DMS and vehicle kinematic data.
