It was not my intent to hijack Pete's thread, are thoughts need to be going out to his young grandson, and not be concerned about my dad, ha had lead a full and fruitful life and was ready to go! It's the young ones we need to root for.

it's a bit off topic, but something I'm (can't think of the word) about, I have always told people , if after 10 lessons your instructor say's " nearly ready just a couple more lessons"! your being ripped off, it's money for nothing driving round with a competent driver.

good luck with you lads test, I am ex army and as a side line used to teach squaddies in my unit to drive, must have done 40-50 including HGV1 and only had one failure! a civilian that ran the MT section at RNAS Yeovilton( the guy that made arctic low-loaders available to me) on a silly mistake trying to pull off up hill in third gear(thought he had selected first) even though I had taught him to use second gear as artic was empty! the only other failure was my first wife who took her test in an old mini we owned, booked second test with driving school car and she sailed through! Hopefully things have changed nowadays and it won't matter your lad has not been taught by a rip of instructor!
