That Bailey has the cheek to criticise trump for threatening the independence of the Fed. Frankly Trump is doing a better job as potus than Bailey is as governor as his one TARGET , CPI UNDER 2 % is beyong him and his halfwit committe. It has exceeede target every month he has been in charge and is getting worse. By cutting rates he has sought to bolster the fortunes of our hapless chancellor and made matters worse, so much so that the gilts market has lost confidence we will get inflation down any time soon. So, tbf, he is a large part of why 30 year gilts are approaching 6% and to deflect onto Trump is pathetic, even the fed reserve chief hasn't been so outspoken and he has every right to complain.

Redcain, good points well made about the Tories- they set the ehics bar really low and in just a year, many Labour ministers have managed to slither under it.

I think the government will be asking the FCA to model the dca payments so as to ensure it doesn't cost the banks too much. Why? - they want to apply a windfall tax and not damage the banks too much as they will pull back on lending. Either way shareholders will suffer.

As for our debt situation - 30 year bonds at highest rate since 1988- so we are entering a debt spiral - only way out - lower energy costs and payments to foreginers, here and their governments overseas.

A further thought - what happened to clawing back the pension fund surplus - anyone know?

Frankly, when the green tories killed the north sea, they killed Wood. The best asset this country has is its skilled people and all Sidara are doing is coughing up 450m dollars - peanuts for a 10 billion turn over company. I am sure the likes of Jacobs will see what is happening here and am hopeful that a rival offer now comes through. The sale of T and D USA shows how much value there really is here.

The government has achieved a short term victory but made it more difficult for itself in the medium term. It is clear that anger levels will rise and tommy's march in london in a fortnight will be bigger than ever.

Frankly the government should see what the people want and go with it , unless of course they are itching for even more confrontation.

Further to my speculation yesterday, listen to R4 at 615 am today and the BBC leads on the idea of a bank levy because of the unearned profits from QE , which is costing us £20 plus billion per year. It is also on the front page of the FT, which can be read on the BBC website.

Meanwhile the Telegraph leads on Angela Raynor dodging £40 k in stamp duty AND dodges council tax on her london home AND is breaking electoral law. Labour hat trick !

FF- interesting you see 104p as next hurdle because a couple of days ago . I posted that same figure on here , having listened to IG's senior technical analyst on IG TV - you tube.

@STP, My speculation. I have not seen that reported by the media recently, however it is a policy promoted by Reform , to not pay the BOE rate to the banks for government debt that they hold overnight AND a few weeks ago i saw the same idea promoted by a left wing economist. I also seem to remember [ but can't be sure] that a senior labour person like Gordon Brown was talking about it. So if you were the chancellor, why would'nt you?

I am beggining to think the market foresees a raid on the banks in the budget - hence they are falling gradually.

£1 not 31- typo

I think we will see 31 before thw weekend. Also, given many of the shares are held by pentland and other lth's the buyback will do more than the 2% implied - I am thinking it will lift us by 10p to around £1.10 by the November.

@Adam, I think the word grim is an overstatement. Last year we had the euros , so the comparators were always going to be tough.Furthermore the uk is suffering from Labour's incompetence so all in all I would call them dull in difficult circumstances.

Looking forward we have fewer shares in circulation - hence a higher eps, NIKE finding its feet [lol] and most importantly the world cup in the USA which will be well hyped. Fairly soon imv, the market will see that we are cheap even without that growth so a sp above £1 looks nailed on imv.

We are called down 1% in premarket. So not too bad imv.

The buyback should help lift the sp imv, given the dull performance. Good that UK is now only one quarter of group.

I watch IG TV on you tube and at 9 23 am their top technical analyst discussed JD sports price action - if anyon e wants to take a look.My summary - we are in an uptrend and with luck should test 104p soon.

Here's a question for all the accountants and others with experience of audit. Why in heavens name is it taking so long to sort the accounts? Did they just employ one junior who has gone on maternity leave? It is effing ridiculous - they had one set of numbers with some forward booking. Well since then those projects must have been substantially complete. I would have thought a couple of weeks was enough - this must be over 6 months now. Any thoughts? Did they ask for a 'go slow' approach?
