What you aren't getting is there is a difference between profit on investment and profit on a sale. You are correct that profit on the sale would be 99%. Profit on the investment would be 9900%.

Investors speak of profit on investment. Retailers think of profit on sale. They are talking about two different things. You are talking about the retail measurement on an investment board. You are not wrong about the measure you are using, you are just using it in the wrong place. If you continue to do so you will only convince everyone that you are stubborn and stupid.

TandT, you are right, we don't know the intentions of the aliens. But it seems possible that if their intentions do include taking out Australia, you may not have a chance to sell before it sinks below the waves, never to be seen again. Good luck anyway.

Let me make this easy for you. If you sold everything at 4p, you'd make 100% profit, right? You want to be sure it doesn't get worse than that?

Tomorrow, sell 1/3 of your shares at 11-12p instead. That gives you 100% profit even if the rest turn out to be worthless.

Then, you can quit worrying about the others, you've made your profit, and you can just let them ride until the company goes bust or gets bought out. Doesn't matter what happens, you made the money you want to be sure of, everything else is just a bonus.

Then the rest of us can go back to speculating about where the next holes will appear, which II will buy in next, how many shares are owned by PIs who read this board, whether or not Mushroomkid's marriage would survive another drop in share price, and what is the real meaning of Spy's next post.

Technically, being purchased by Iberia, which is wholly owned by IAG, rather than IAG itself.

This deal has been in the works a while. Sounds like a done deal now.

Indeed. Some of that may be happening already, though none with 3% yet. But yes, I could easily see someone like that wanting to get in on this. I'd guess if someone tried to buy 10% they'd drive the share over 25p. Too many holders with sticky fingers for it not to have a huge impact on SP.

There are other huge gold mining companies that might decide 25% of this mine is worth buying. If GGP won't sell it to them, they might just go direct to the shareholders and try to buy GGP.

Not saying it will happen, but it could. Barrick and Rio come to mind.

I think the share count gives a little bit of insight as to the likelihood of a hostile takeover succeeding.

It suggests there's a sizeable hard core of >informed< private investors who won't necessarily jump if someone like Rio offers 20p (or whatever) and the BOD says, "Not enough."

There's a lot of PIs who would say, "Cool, profit!" People who read here might not. Add to them the employee shareholders and the IIs who would always look twice before jumping, and I think it means the likely of a successful hostile takeover which doesn't properly value what we have is low.

I think that's useful to know.

I expect one to be paid. No idea how much, because I don't know how much coronavirus will impact profitability this quarter and next.

I do know the Russian lockdown has been much more relaxed than here and is virtually over now.

It's a tragedy when one of your shares does so well that it unbalances your portfolio. Deepest sympathies!

Posting history is 100% in GGP, never mentioned that other share before. If a ramper, a very clever one, and not likely to engage in the childish kind that you've suggested here. Perhaps check posting history before making such accusations in future.

Fair point about other shares, although neither of us started the conversation. The numbers you compared are legit, they reflect the risk. Higher risk with M&S, higher reward, as it should be.

The market is relatively efficient in major shares like these. Even with shares like IAG, there are significant differences of view as to what the risk actually is, but the market price roughly reflects a weighted average view of that risk. Effectively, when we buy, we're saying that we think the average market view of risk/reward is mistaken. So far, with my IAG buy, that's looking pretty prescient for me, I must be a genius. Wish all my other buys looked as good.

Great post, Coach, re: the two paths ahead. There's actually a third -- stay in the joint venture on Hav through the mining stage.

I suspect preferences for the different scenarios cut across both LTH and recent buyers, though.
