@RC/Rup
I don't always follow these guidelines as well as I should but I think there are four kinds of comments I make here that have value.
1. Factual stuff you might not have thought of yourself, but that you can verify yourself. Those kinds of things, I hope people never stop checking me out, but perhaps over time I'll build enough credibility that not everything I say on those lines will have to be checked. One concern I have is that I may sound authoritative sometimes and so some people just never check -- then, you have false authority. That's dangerous. But yes, I do agree that it's a shame if credibility is completely lost.
2. Analysis -- this is where I'm drawing conclusions based on known facts. No one should ever just accept the conclusions without knowledge that the facts are accurate and without following the logic. This should always be checked, IMO. But there's a credibility factor here, too. Some people consistently provide good analysis, so you know their thoughts are worth considering, others not so much.
3. Speculation -- this should always be labeled clearly as speculation and no one should accept it as fact. No one should ever trust speculation.
4. Community building -- friendly and personal comments. This helps build a sense of community which has (IMO) its own value but also from an investment perspective encourages research-sharing, mutual analysis, etc.
If Paddy posts that they are drilling at point X, I don't check it anymore. He's got credibility. Magic has put his own name and reputation and potentially his future career on the line -- if he posted rubbish on YouTube, it could hurt his career prospects. He's got credibility. Bamps is providing loads of analysis, and his numbers are right there to check. Sometimes he shifts a decimal somewhere it didn't want to go -- never trust his conclusions without checking, LOL! You know he's not playing games because he gives you his whole analysis. If he got it wrong, you can see it.
So I see what you are saying and partly agree. And yes, I think we can also usually tell who is real and who isn't, who is posting because they like the mutual help of the board and want to be part of it, and who is perhaps just looking to manipulate or serve their own agenda. So perhaps I mostly agree.
