Thanks for posting this. Would never had found it independently. Love the part about Superdry being a brand for fat over 40's. I am sitting here listening to the podcast as an overweight 49 year old in a Superdry hoodie. ????
Just a quick point on the insider trading comments - whilst it is absolutely illegal to trade on insider information, I suspect that it isnt just more common than you think, markets are rife with insider trading. Whilst I can only cite one example (I will get to that later). But everyone knows the saying "Buy on rumour, sell on fact" right? So what is a rumour if it isnt insider information? I (As I am sure you all have) seen many situations where there is significant price movement on a stock without any RNS or publicly available facts - only for some news to be released withn a few days of the price action. Which usually ressults in a correction of some kind as the actual news is priced in correctly. I cant think of any reason for this scenario other than insider information being available to brokers and or markey makers. Would be happy to entertain any ideas though... Now, onto the example i mentioned earlier... Many years ago, I attended an interview in a financial instituion and my route to the office i was interviewed in took me almost through a dealing room - I was being taken to the interview by a friend who was already working in this establishment (He was my lead in to the being invited for the interview) and whilst walking through the dealing room, my host told me that he wasnt sure why but that institution was looking to open a large position in Sainsbury's - sure enough, several of the traders had sainsbury's data on their terminals.... About a week later (May have been more or less than a week as it was some time ago) There was a declaration of interest of a take-over (I think) by a Qataru investment company. Leading up to this announcement, the share price had increased significantly. That is easy to verify if you check the weeks leading up to the first announcement - A £10.6 Bln offer was accepted by the board, but not sure if it was approved with researching further... Obviously I have no idea how this bank gained access to the information, but it was before it had been made public and I am sure they made a tidy profit from it - which by any definition is insider trading. I fully admit, that "one swallow, does not a summer make" :-) But I am sure this wasnt an isolated incident...IMHO of course...
From 11:40 onwards this morning, there were 15 trades of 10,000 shares or more - All appear to be buys, the biggest being 253,571 shares at 11:40 which seems to have been the start of something. Todays total traded volume was 911,509 (140 seperate trades) compared to a previous average daily volume of 57,721.
136,687 shares were sold for a total value of £201,404 and 774,822 shares were bought - total value of £1,112,184.
I will admit i am no expert. I have been watching a few "New Power" companies for a while, Amte being one of them, but basic laws of supply and demand would dictate further increases based on the above info. For legal reasons I will not suggest that there is any insider trading going on, but I do suspect that this sudden increase in demand is the result of somebody knowing something....I guess us private investors will find out when the good news is fully accounted for in the SP... :-)
Why is everybody so ****ty to each other... Over these last few weeks anyone could have made a good profit on this share - And if you did, good on you... If you missed it, there will be others. If you made a loss, tomorrow is another day... Everyone is always trying to appear more insightful, smarter, better than someone else... some taking pleasure in other people's bad trades, others gloating at their own good trades - sheesh... Whoever you are, you are not the smartest guy/girl in the room, you arent the best trader in the market just do your thing, hone your craft and dont be an arse along the way... Jees..
