I wonder if we should all write in to the LSE (i.e. this site) and set up an ABX board for Barrick as they are taking "Aca" over. We can then continue to meet up on that board -post Acacia.
It is true I am in to the miners at the moment, but lets say as soon as the uncertainty is out of the way and interest rates start rising I will be topping up my banking shares!!! I actually have my money all around the market, i.e. My Stobarts and Marstons have also done very well recently. I also avoid the house builders only because I see interest rates going up and there will be a possibility of property values falling quickly for a while. I therefore change my investments according to everdays news if you follow. Makes life interesting doesn't it.

Sounds like you were brought up the right way by a loving family and if your father was a scrap metal dealer he has far more money than mine. I only know wealthy scrap metal dealers!! However please do not get the impression I had a beneficial upbringing :-
It is true my Grandfather at one time had a lot of money but my Grandfather decided to not take on the family business which was sold continuing his role as a Barristers Clerk in London. He apparently had his own Garage nr to the Crystal Palace park where he kept his car in the 1920's and they lived in a 6flr Mansion in London. He suddenly died at the age of 42 of a peritonitis and my Father was brought up with no Father and whose mother had to support the family. The firm of Solicitors my Grandfather had worked for tried to buy the house by money laundering which my Grandmother refused to sell and they became homeless when the firm enforced the lease (as it was a house that could not be maintained financially) they were out on the street. My Grandmother found a job in a Railway ticket office and rented a house for the family. My Father grew up with no father and at times could not go to school as he had no shoes to wear. He however he educated himself and I am proud of him as he became the youngest headmaster in london and when he retired was the longest serving. I was brought up the right way and had absolutely no hand me downs. I started gardening in two large private Estates at weekends when i was 12 years old and by the time I was 16 was riding my first sports moped to school, and motorbike when 17. My elder brother did the same as well as buying and selling bikes and motorbike he was so successful he used to drive and park at school in his Daimler to all of the teachers and children's amusement. He later formed and developed a large construction company before he died of a massive heart attack at the age of 49. I did well at Lloyds but no-one help me I worked my own way up. No-one gave me a pull up and everything I now have I earned through hard work. My Uncle was in the Marine Commando's and manned and held off the germans at Dunkirk from the front of the launch craft which he controlled to and from the beeches rescuing the troops, which he did time and time again. All of my wife's family were in the army some in the first and second world war. I am proud to have a commendation in my possession for my wife's Grandfather signed in person from Winston Churchill. All the families medals and there were many were handed back to the army to sell for the Army Charities. You see you never know a persons' background and this makes us all different with different views on life brought about from our own life's experiences I am my own man and proud of it, but I do generally try to not show off and leave that to others.

Hi Dasut - Likewise in the Insurance world most Values of international claims and settlements are made in USD, but sometimes for passenger settlement for instance in Aviation Insurance a settlement is made using a special currency formed using some specific percentages of Gold as unfortunately Hitler diluted large quantities of Gold held so that they were not pure. (I am serious). SDR's have also been used to try and stabilize international currency movements.

I see Politics only playing a very small part in the price of Gold. The main driver is the fact it is looked upon as an alternative currency. I have found that its price is more affected by the price of money.i.e interest rates. As Gold is rated in USD the American currency that is controlled by many things including interest rates is the main driver. Plus bonds purchases via ETF's at times when equities fall or of times when interest rates are likely to be cut due to low growth, or a hedge against high inflation. Interestingly one of two Countries have started balancing their own currencies by using Gold in the more traditional sense. ie. The Fed reserve and supply/demand has more influence on the price of Gold than Boris Johnson.

Mike. just seen on Bloomberg that The Bank of India have increased their reserves of Gold and intend to carry on buying as the growing middle classes out there are really enjoying going out to treat themselves for the Gold coloured metal. This will help keep the price and demand up. To be honest I hadn't really considered that scenario.

Mr T -Lloyds of london actually just started as a Coffee house and became a meeting place for mainly seafarers who used to exchange trade or bets or insurances, it was not an Underwriter in the singular it was a marketplace where hundreds of different Underwriters worked for themselves (a little bit like bookies). Many Syndicates were formed who specialized in all sorts of Insurances and many were owned by the Underwriters themselves who Underwrote their risks with their own money. There was no Limited liability basis and so they could lose everything, many did, but many also made a lot of money and they also had tax advantages (see you personal tax form one question is "are you a Lloyds Underwriter" this is where it came from. They used to work on a three year accounting principle. i.e. You could have a bad year but over the three you should be ok. Even in the days when I first started (not quite in the 1600's) you could work your way up from a simple entry clerk to a claims clerk and an underwriting clerk and eventually to an Underwriter. They were very much run like families a great place to be where the staff were gentlemen and stuck to their word hence where the saying "my word is my bond came from." Many still are honourable there despite the whole world and his dog not be so. I hope this helps. No malice intended. For me politically I feel if you vote for a Party you do not necessarily vote for your MP. I feel proportional representation is a fairer means of employing a govt. Lloyds of London is an Insurance Marketplace and it was actually responsible for its own rules and acts? I feel you need to conduct some research as your history is lacking. However they were in existence for hundreds of years prior to your Govt and used to bring in to the Uk more invisible earnings than the banks all put together.

Hi Gerry -Yes to be honest I do it sometimes as well but you have to watch the gains (sometimes nearer to April its worth taking a loss. I fell out with my wife last year because without her realising she made too much money and had to fill out a Capital gains form. Well I had to do that for her as well. Still I feel its worth the pain to make the gain!! Happy days -have a good weekend. Things could heat up for the Miners over the weekend as I hear the USA are putting more tariffs on our Chinamen. However the Hurricane will hit the USA /Florida on Sunday so they may have theirs mind other things and if they need electric I hope they will support my Aggreko shares. I remember when I worked at Lloyds of London and one of my mates was a member he said the quickest way to avoid your losses at Lloyd's was not to serve a notice of three years it was to not comply with their rules (i.e. not to pay overseas subscriptions and get thrown out)ha,ha. Subsequently they did and he avoided all of his losses. Same applies here me thinks!!

I was lucky Rep in that I and my wife already held some Hoch as part of an old purchase, but I also bought some the other day before the divi date. So I and my wife are both on for the divi if they kept to the date announced. I have had however where sometimes for so e reason the divi is paid late so I don't always look at the date as guaranteed and look at the dates as there or thereabouts. Good news for today is the Gold and Silver price are now back in positive territory.

Oh thanks for that one less worry. I am already in HOC, CEY, ACA -so we stand half a chance!!

Do you feel this is for the good or bad? I can then access if I feel this will affect the way gold has been traded in the past? or whether I buy any more Gold miner shares?

By the way many here have said once there is sign of a deal the Gold price will fall, but in fact whereas there may have been a blip to begin with once the deal looked like coming previously the Gold price started to go up later. This is because it is felt consumption will increase for the Gold product, and then you will ask well what is it actually used for? It is the greatest electronic conductor known to man and as such is used extensively in the electronics industry. Look at your headphones all the best ones have gold conductors. Hi Rep, like you was expecting to see Silver falling BUT it actually now going up.
I also expect the Fed to announce further cuts next week. I think todays fall is more likely as a result of those selling post divi. which as the share went ex.divi Yesterday. Maybe we will turn this afternoon when our friends over the other side of the pond open?

Trump just cancelled a trip due to the Hurricanes expected to hit "central Florida" (quite unusual and a mirror of Andrew) this will keep him occupied I see no immediate deal when the Chinese are playing for time and want to negotiate after Trump leaves in presidency in 2020. Fed chair to speak next week (i had a feeling it was Tuesday) where most expect him to indicate a further cut in rates. All the above will actually increase the Gold price.

Many suspect due to trade wars the Fed will announce a intention to cut rates next week and so I am surprised we are down (even just slightly today) perhaps this afternoon the Gold price will start going up again currently at USD1525 oz.
