Fair point, Gordon. This has to be a safer bet to have your money in than the airlines right now though given Saga Cruise can potentially start bringing money in again soon.
If this foreign travel ban runs and runs then the airline stocks might plummet again. Buying opportunity?
Haha. I’m 36 but I feel well over 40 after the amount of beer I’ve been drinking during lockdown.
Hahaha. Quite a nice high street there these days. Catching up with Horsforth. Good to hear you are extracting plenty of cash out of them!
I might pop in and book a holiday myself if these shares come up in the next 6 months! It won’t be a Saga cruise though because I’m too young for it. Very happy to be holding Saga shares though!
Good honest debate here guys. Agree with both Beach and Banbury on this one.
On the face of it, slightly disappointing opening bookings from the consolidation. However, on reflection, is it really that disappointing given we are 50% booked with tickets on sale for less than 1 day and over 3 months until the initial sailing.
On balance I would say that is pretty good going and if UK sailings are going ahead, then regardless of whether they are fully booked or not, the company is now in a materially better position from a reduced cash burn perspective.
Farsley Travel? Are you from Farsley beach? I grew up in Farsley... small world.
Not too far down the road from me, Olmsey.
Lots of negativity in the news last weekend focusing on our European friends threats to block vaccine exports and the impact it may have on our own vaccine rollout.
This weekend and things seem to be very positive with news surfacing regarding the arrival of the highly rated Moderna vaccine from America in the UK in April and the potential to start rolling out to under 50s.
Based on the daily case and death numbers, it would appear that the dear leaders roadmap out of lockdown is progressing well and we are expecting news regarding Saga staycation cruises to start circulating from Monday onwards.
Add all those constituent parts together and I think we are looking in very good shape here at the current prices.
Our friends in the European Commission are sick to the stomach that the UK and US programme are progressing so well, whilst their programme is struggling to get out of the starting blocks. However, due to the amount of different vaccines we have pre-ordered, it would appear that on this occasion they will not be able to thwart us.
Apologies in advance for the ramp and dig at our European friends.
Huddersfield.
Great bit of news to round off the week. Can’t see this staying below 400 much longer. I’ll be having a beer this evening to celebrate the return of Saga cruising to UK waters. Cheers, Beach.
Thanks for the update and welcome aboard the ship, tosh. Good information. 29th March is Monday. Will be interesting to find out what kind of level of demand there is for bookings.
Nice one, Gordon. Seems to confirm what beach was saying the other day. I agree that it doesn’t make sense that this has fallen so far.
I think it’s just been dragged down with the rest of the travel sector and the market is not taking account of the fact they may be very busy sailing around the UK soon.
Not completely surprising I suppose given there doesn’t appear to have been any announcement from Saga regarding this yet. I was scratching my head about what the situation was until I spoke with beach earlier this week.
Hopefully this means we are due an announcement and bounce back up over 400 in the next couple of weeks.
Sounds promising, beach. Solid rise off the 320 bottom today. Think we may see a gradual rise back up to between 360 and 380 this week. Looked like it was oversold.
Thanks, beach. Great information. Got a much better understanding of the state of play now.
Cheers, Rox. My post set sail before your second post had arrived in port on my screen, hence the confusion! I’ve had a few beers and I’m typing on my phone, so I’m not my usual razor sharp self!
Thanks, beach. Very insightful. What are consolidations? Offering first option to people who’s cruises have been cancelled?
Looks awesome, Rox. Bloody expensive as well. However, it’s May 2022 by the looks of it. I’m intrigued why they aren’t yet offering this type of cruise for Summer 2021.
As JoeSoap has pointed out, there are likely valid reasons why this is the case. But I’m wondering whether anyone has any insight on this.
Excellent. So, according to the article, there’s a good chance that UK cruises could resume as soon as 17th, May.
So this brings me to my next question... if that’s the case, and given that some of their competitors such as P&O already have, then why haven’t Saga started offering this option yet? Could an announcement regarding this be imminent?
It seems likely that the return of foreign holidays will be further delayed. I believe Saga were originally planning to sail again from May onwards, but they recently put this back to the end of June.
Some of Saga’s competitors such as P&O have already started taking bookings for staycation cruises around the UK. This seems like it would be a great option for Saga. An option that would allow them to set sail and start bringing in a few bob sooner rather than later. Booking demand for P&O staycation cruises this week seems to suggest there would be no problem getting bums on seats and the pricing would be at a premium.
Can anyone clarify what the current position is on this type of cruise from both a Saga and a government perspective. As far as I’m aware, Saga haven’t actually offered this to customers yet? From the government perspective, my understanding is that it is currently outlawed, but that there is a possibility that although foreign travel will continue to be outlawed, domestic holidaying may be allowed again from 17th, May onwards?
Looks like the bottom might be in at 320. Next time this bounces it may go higher than the previous bounce, so we could be looking at 430 to 500 territory. Apologies in advance for the ramp.
Just be patient and wait for the staycation / seacation announcement bounce.
