Is the AMC deal news really that bad for Cineworld? Universal Studios movies have been banned by Cineworld since April. They're still banned today. The likelihood is they'll be back on again soon, when Cineworld reaches a similar agreement with Universal. Yes the 17 day time window is a bit short, but there's likely a lot of detail in the agreement regarding flexibility that is not currently known about by the public. I really don't see how this news justifies a 20% drop in the price this morning. CINE has become the whipping boy of the FTSE.

Haha. Kind of makes sense from a psychology perspective. I think I read that there used to be a thing where Monday’s were statistically bad days for stock markets and Friday’s good days as investors looked forward to the weekend.

Not ideal to have such a short exclusive time window, but sounds like there is flexibility built into the deal. Must be a positive thing to resolve a dispute with a big studio during a time of crisis and therefore open up the possibility of screening their movies again in the short term.

Definitely a business that can generate a tonne of cash in normal times. That’s one of the reasons I like it. Where have you got the 200 million loan interest figure from? I seem to recall when I read the annual report it indicated around 500 million in finance costs. Is the 500 million made up of 200 million loan interest + 300 million lease liability cost?

Yes nice to see CINE bounce back and close positive today. AMC is really flying considering the dow, s&p and nasdaq are all down today.

Just booked myself in to go see Empire Strikes Back and Interstellar on Friday. Never seen either of these movies on the big screen before, so looking forward to it. £5.75 for Empire Strikes Back on 2D and then £10.45 for Interstellar on IMAX. Lovely jubbly.

Good news that they’re trying to come to agreement on a massive new stimulus. Sounds like there is quite a way to go before they can agree on it and vote it through though. So we might have some time to wait before it materialises.

I’m not a lawyer but I’m sceptical that such a law could be introduced retrospectively. However, I don’t think the lawsuit is a big deal anyway. I tend to agree with others on here that this type of case is likely to take years to resolve. By which time there would be some kind of out of court settlement between cineworld and cineplex if cineworld are in the wrong.
