The analyst didn't really provide a compelling argument for why 19 p was likely though. He just basically said it would happen due to the AMC deal, which is old news that has already been priced in. The 19 p figure is simply IG quoting the 52 week intra day low which occurred at the peak of the massive market sell off in March.

Especially at those prices - 30 dollars a pop to watch at home. Can't see it being popular at that price.

It's a recovery play mate. The price is currently around 1/5 of what it was pre covid crisis. Yes there is a lot of short positions open and the short positions have increased recently. However, the current open short positions are actually less than what they were pre covid when the price was £2. There's currently 9.4% short, as of February 6th (before the price plummeted) there were 14.67% short. In other words investors have been shorting this stock for a long time. It doesn't mean the share price won't recover from the current level.

Even though I personally didn't consider the news regarding Mulan to be that bad, I had a feeling the market might take a dim view and we could see a significant drop today. It was a pleasant surprise to close just a little bit down. I think it shows that a lot of the negativity has now already been priced.

No RNS to indicate they will be released. Nor is there anything pencilled in the financial calendar. So it doesn't look likely they will be released tomorrow.

Most people don't have a decent home cinema system. Even if you do have a decent system, it doesn't come close to the IMAX experience. Under normal circumstances, the best course of action for a studio is to follow the standard model and rinse the customer at the box office for a number of weeks, then rinse them for a second time on demand and on BluRay. I think this is just a temporary measure by Disney during uncertain times. Once the US cinemas reopen at the end of the month and its clear people are still happy to go to the cinema, it will be a different story.

Am I correct in saying that this is an announcement relating to Mulan and not all future Disney releases? If that is the case then I think this is good news because it confirms that Mulan will be released this year, which is good for cinema. If I were Mooky I would take that - for this movie only. That will benefit both cinema and studios in terms of cash flow in the short term. Once things are back on track next year then studios will see the standard model of cinema first, VOD later as the most profitable option again.

Yeah Calderdale and Kirklees are on mini lockdown along with parts of Greater Manchester. It doesn’t stop you from going to the cinema as far as I’m aware though. So long as you’re not meeting others from another household I think.

I agree with you on that to an extent indepth. However, the point I was eluding to in my last sentence was that Mooky is obviously not currently feeling that Cineworld’s situation is so precarious that he must capitulate to the demands of Universal.

Been down to Cineworld Wakefield to see the 14:30 screening of unhinged today. First thing to say is it is a good movie and well worth seeing. Russell Crowe looks like a right fat b****** these days but he played the part well I thought.

There wasn’t that many in. Probably about 15 including me. Not so bad for early Tuesday afternoon I guess. I asked one of the staff if they had been busy since reopening and she advised that it hadn’t been super busy but there had been a steady stream of customers coming in.

I’m surprised that AMC sold out the cinema industry and agreed to this deal. However, it may as you say be because AMC are currently in a very precarious position and fighting for survival. I was impressed with the confidence shown by Mooky to hold firm on this when the news broke.

Nice bit of negative publicity from IG. I can’t see any compelling argument for a “likely return” to 19p in this piece.
