If you think about it, when CINE went to 22 p (as low as 18 p actually on intra day), it was when the entire market was at the peak of a massive sell off and investors were in a state of shear panic. It was at that incredible level for one day only and more than doubled in value the following day.

I don’t think it’s likely to revisit that low unless there is some very big news such as further delays to US cinema reopening or worse still cinemas asked to close again after having already reopened. Given that cases are now coming down in the US and we are seeing a steady stream of positive vaccine news, I think it’s more likely the next significant move will be upwards as opposed to downwards.

Can they get their vaccine to production before October to get one over on the Ruskies.

That's the thing with the old movies. People might not necessarily have seen them at the cinema before, so it's a great opportunity to do so. I went down to see Empire Strikes Back last week which was originally in cinemas before I was born!

@x66rjp - I don't think the Cineworld booking software automatically social distances bookings at the moment. I think it's currently the responsibility of the person booking to make sure they're not too close to another party.

@investroid - I stand corrected. I didn't know about the companion seats. My take on it is that it is not a bad attendance given it is for an old classic on a Monday evening. It shows that people aren't all hiding at home and I would say it offers some promise for the sort of attendance levels you might get for a blockbuster such as Tenet. This is of course all totally my opinion though. We'll see what happens when Tenet arrives in a few weeks.

Interstellar showing on IMAX at Leeds White Rose Centre Cineworld @ 19:20 this evening. 46 seats booked so far. Not bad for an old movie being rerun.

No offence mate but I've read your post properly. What I'm suggesting to you is that you're wasting your time highlighting the data for Saturdays because it's meaningless when considered in isolation.

Why are you only looking at the figures for Saturdays though? If you consider day to day cases over the past couple of weeks the 7 day rolling average is coming down.

That looks like a clear downward trend off the peak. I agree it needs more time to confirm if it is an ongoing trend though.

I think the data you're looking at that indicates 11th Feb as the most recent short position is out of date bud. No doubt some short sellers have made an absolutely fortune here though.

I was looking at the 7 day moving average figure on new cases as opposed to the day to day figures.

Good to see the key states of California and Florida continuing to trend down off the peak.

Unless the government stops people from going they will be going. There’s already been widespread problems with people flouting lockdown rules, so they’re hardly likely to think twice now the lockdown is lifted. The bigger risk is if the government tries to close cinemas again, but it’s unlikely that will happen barring a catastrophe.

New York looks good to go based on the new cases curve. California and Florida look like they need a bit more time.

Totally agree hosai. A rights issue is obviously not ideal for us, but it's also not the end of the world if it allows the business to continue and recover next year. I still don't think a rights issue is likely at the moment though. Early next year... maybe. Now... I don't think so.

Yes that sounds spot on. The market is already expecting and has priced in bad. So very bad is a fall and not so bad is a rise. I think its possible we might not see the results next week if there is no legal obligation. I've seen other companies delay earlier this year.

Daily new cases 7 day moving average does look like its now coming down off the peak. Could be a month or so before it returns to more acceptable levels though. New York looks under control.
