The two days of press visits in March is not an issue. what I find interesting is that it is supposed to depart from Southampton in May. I can only presume that since the article was written in December last year that dtes have changed.

Thanks for this. If I am right that means that the Islander, SeaRose and the Odyssey will all be in drydock at the same time. That will prbably fill up the drydocks. we should hopefully get a RNS soon.

Citizenlane ref 16.39 post very interesting suggestion about possible government contract. I would not rule it out what I find interesting is that Stormont came back on Saturday. On Monday the Northern Ireland Affairs Committee opened an inquiry into why Northern Ireland gets less of a per capita defence spend than oher parts of the UK. So clearly pressure is being put on the UK government on this issue. Another possibility is that the MoD would sign a Terms of Business Agreement with HARL guaranteeing to spend a certain amount of business every year. I note that BAB has such an agreement which expires next year.

Welcome news that the PM sees the need to drive more defence spending into Northern Ireland.

During PMQs today, the PM said: “I have seen, with my own visits, the vital role that Northern Ireland is playing through the location of firms like Thales and Harland & Wolff. I am delighted in last week’s command paper we specifically committed to examining how we can further bolster Northern Ireland’s share of the UK defence sector because it’s another essential pillar of our precious economic union.”

Last summer, the Royal United Services Institute published a report, 'The Defence Industry in Northern Ireland: Leveraging Untapped Potential', which found that defence spending in NI is considerably lower than in other nations and regions and that defence spending can help level-up and drive significant industrial growth.

The report cited Harland & Wolff’s £77m investment into Belfast following the award of the FSS contract to Team Resolute as an example of how strategic defence procurement can help drive reindustrialisation and long-term, sustainable job creation.

The investment in technology, infrastructure and people is underpinning the transformation of the yard and will not only support FSS delivery but embed the latest technology across the group to increase our competitiveness in the European market and win new orders across our five markets of defence, commercial, energy, renewables and cruise and ferry.

The question was from Sir Jeffrey Donaldson who is then member for Lagan but not a member of the Northern Ireland Committee. With the Northern Ireland Affairs Committee opening an inquiry into the question of defence spending in Northern Ireland as well it seems as if there is a concerted push to get more defence spending into Northern Ireland. Question is what will the government do in response.

Had JW said at the end of December that cash in bank at year end was in the region of £x this woud have gone a long way to reassure people. As this has not happened we are left with doing exercises like I did a few weeks back and looking at what work is known to be coming into the yards. Problem is we do not have any information on contract value except for the SeaRose. It has been about three months since the last contract award RNS. Can you follow me on twitter @mvbooks2.

Chrisatrdg ref 07.39 post I have not seen such ill informed vitriol since the tender process for the FSS. It makes me wonder if there is an incoming contract. I note that Ben Murray in a LinkedIn post said amongst other things. 'Those joining the scheme could have the opportunity to work on the next generation of Fleet Solid Support ships the company is helping build through to working on green sources of energy such as offshore wind turbine foundations.' If the apprentices are going to work on green sources of energy we will be needing some contracts soon.
