Nomad, I didn't understand about shares back then as I was looking at PSN for £2.50 and TW for 27p and didn't know what to do about buying. I may of missed that one but I sure as hell wasn't missing this one, I have learned about shares in a year.

Thomo1968. if I had a hundred grand spare to invest in October last year I would of ignored all the possible quick recovery shares and would of put £50k in BP and £50k in RDSB as they are two firms you know were never going under and the amount of dividend you would get would be a nice fund to keep investing.

Mine are for a pension in ten years time so I plan reinvesting dividends for that time. I'm unimpressed with the rollout of TW dividend as I hold PSN and they are full dividend already so once TW passes £2 I think I'm selling them and buying more PSN. Pi

Nomad. Nice amount of shares to own at a good price. I'm more not all eggs in one basket so have a good range in six stocks :-)

There is an option to reinvest dividend as soon as you get it but I cancelled mine and let the money sit in my account so i can pick the time when I spend the money. Gives you a chance to wait for a cheaper price.

Anyone planning on selling out now? I'm in for the long run and needs a two in front before I consider selling

If you don't need the money and your not reading this stock just let it ride, I will sell mine in a few years when it goes top dollar price. then I will spend it sensibly by putting half on Black and the rest will go on beer and hookers :-)

BP could be making multiple millions in a normal world at these levels but it isn’t a normal world. All air, road and sea traffic is down so oil usage must still be lower than normal.

Dividendmax is showing September payment and its the only one this year.

Once a dividend returns properly next year RDSB will pay more that BP.

I tried to sell mine when it went to 78p but it was going to a negotiated order on the Halifax Web site so I decided to hold. I don't think I would of had the balls to wait for the drop to 62p to buy back in but i definitely would of bought back in when I saw 68p.

Think your OK picking your own investments in your pension that way, just usually when some one takes a big profit the government likes their share as well.

Roxbuyhouse, yup your right, just been on gov Web site and its 10% tax up to £37500 profit then it goes to 20% on any profits above that figure.

I thought CGT was 36%. if its only 10% I will be less bothered when I come to sell some of my other stocks.

I don't know how your pension works along with shares but I do know a £71k in profit means your going to pay capitals tax on £58700. so make sure you keep about £21k for tax

Lovegolf, capital gains tax is about 36% of your profits above your tax free allowance so you have a big tax bill on that money. Dividend tax is only 7.5% as long as your not a High rate tax payer so the dividends would make your life a bit more comfortable and you would still have the shares to sell at your tax allowance each year if thats what you chose to do.

Lovegolf, if this money was for your pension you would of been better off just taking your capital gain allowance out as this will rise slot more within a couple of years and if they return the dividend in say two years time, that money alone would be a cracking pension a year for you.
