You suggest, 'If you in general have a science background and invent something that would not make you the best candidate to sell it.'
I disagree, some of the best CEO's in history have had a major influence in the design of there products or services, throughout a wide spectrum of industries.
Off the top of my head:
- Steve Jobs: Apple
- Elon Musk: Technology, Transportation, and Space Exploration
- Henry Ford: Ford Motor Company
- Walt Disney: Animation and Theme parks
- Samuel Walton: Walmart
- Bill Gates: Microsoft
- Jeff Bezos: Amazon
- Conrad Gates: Hotelier
- James Dyson: Hoovers etc.
- Ingvar Kampard: Ikea
Now, i'm not saying Gino is in the same ilk as the above, although i elude to these guys to accentuate my next point.
Good CEOs, irrespective of background must have a blend of leadership qualities, strategic vision, and interpersonal skills to drive an organisation to success. They employ clever people and know the importance of delegation to empower others.
All the best,
Stephen.
Ps. Time, sales, and the company accounts will be the final judge of Gino!
