Globalisation17 May 2022 12:27
The days of globalisation may be coming to and end. Making stuff and shipping it half way around the world is bonkers. A 38 tonne truck uses about one litre of diesel for each road mile. Even renewables do not solve the problem of making long sea passages. There will always be a need for some oil and gas but the secret now is in the mix. All those who escaped to the country are finding they are trapped by spiralling commuting costs, trips to the supermarket and visiting family.
Putrid has seen fit along with covid to alter the world order. And yes romaron you cannot use cement in a Ukrainian winter. It freezes. The farmer up the road sells his products at the gate. More and more people are cycling to him or worse walking. Hardly any food miles. Leccy cars are not the answer either as the battery technology is not yet up to it.
It is going to be a long hard winter for those in poor quality housing. I can say though living in a B rated all I do is fall asleep from lack of air.
I have not done much buying or selling recently. Had a wee nibble at a small UK oily which is rising nicely but enjoying the first days of summer. The flappy things called sails mean travel downwind is easy peasy!!
