I suspect that drilling is now finalised at Shell Graff 1. Until yesterday, Ensco 10 had support vessels right alongside but they have backed off, probably because the drill is finished and there is no more equipment to unload. If I’m correct, Shell continued drilling until yesterday so their 2 discoveries were not even in the target zone. I don’t think we know yet what is in the target zone but hopefully mega-times more than was found on the way down !!
At Total Venus, Maersk has 5 support vessels either alongside or in close proximity. They have been drilling for longer as they have a deeper play. However, as per Ensco last week, the support vessels increased from 2 to 5 which was shortly followed by the news leaking out of oil discoveries.
In summary, I think Ensco has now hit target zone at Shell Graff. At Total Venus, Maersk may have hit the same oil on the way down, but is still drilling towards the target zone. Educated guesses based on Marine Tracking intelligence.
It was announced that Venus had successfully spudded on 1st December so we can assume that fluffing completed on 28th/29th November. That means drilling has been ongoing for 57/58 days now. With an estimated drill time of 60 days we should be on the cusp of news (or leaks more likely) any day. Not the best time to be trading in and out of this one !
Venus is only 38 nautical miles away from the Shell Graff site but they have similar targets in the same geological play. The prospects of a double-find are very real and Yes, I agree that the Namibian Oil Minister’s plan to make an official announcement of the drilling results by 4th Feb AT THE LATEST (!!) are very telling. Given the Venus estimated drill time of 60 days, this fits perfectly with a MASSIVE double announcement. Wow !!
Having been accompanied by 2 other vessels since early December. The drill ship at Venus has now been joined by 3 more…. so 5 supporting vessels today in total. We saw a similar increase in activity at Shell Graff last week. Hopefully, good news about to break from Venus !!!!

There is already oil being pumped from the basin to the north of the Global licences, off Angola & Gabon. We now have a discovery in the basin to the south of Global. That makes things very exciting for Global being sat in the middle of the action :)
Wow !!! Thanks for this Horny.
This extract caught my eye;
“ The well results have so far shown at least two reservoirs containing what one of the sources described as a significant amount of oil and gas.
According to a second source, the drilling results have shown one layer at least 60 metres deep of hydrocarbons, holding an estimated 250 to 300 million barrels of oil and gas equivalent.”
Don’t get confused between the oil fields and oil reservoirs. The prospective oil fields are enormous, stretching from South Africa’s waters all the way up to the Gulf of Guinea…. thousands of miles. The oil is found in much smaller reservoirs and it’s a case of finding just where they are within this enormous area. To the north of Namibia / Walvis Bay, reservoirs have been found off Angola & Gabon and wells are now pumping out oil. So don’t worry too much that Shell & Total are drilling to the south of Walvis. If they hit oil, it just means that Global are literally surrounded by reservoirs to both the north and the south !
That link isn’t opening up properly. Anyway, once you have the page up, double click, then press Past Track.
Maersk has been on the same spot since it arrived early December. It changed just yesterday ( or possibly a few days ago because the site takes a few days to update). It’s moved about 50 metres and has now settled in a new position. Intriguing !
See link. The drill ship has moved position since yesterday. This MIGHT signify that a 2nd drill has started. This is common practice when a ‘show’ is found in the initial drill. 3 or 4 extra drills are done to confirm the findings. Fingers crossed !

2 Bourbon vessels at Graff / 2 Pacific vessels at Venus. Thinking it through,they are probably supplying equipment to the drilling ships. The target zones are very deep. The vessels seem to be commuting back & forth to Walvis Bay, no doubt picking up more equipment each time. One of the Bourbon vessels which just arrived at Graff today is arranged for oil recovery which is interesting given that the Graff may be close to completion ( if a 45 day drill is correct, of course).
See link below. Bourbon Calm & Bourbon Rainbow … BOTH now alongside Graff-1 !!!
