It is possible to avoid VAT by using a bonded store for storage and the VAT will only be payable if you take delivery. Most dealers will offer that service. Ggp thruandtru. Gold, above ground, refined and held at the Perth Mint can be converted to cash in an instant and will gain value. On the other hand cash sitting ina bank acct is losing value due to the rate of inflation being higher than the interest rates achieved.

Hi Timber. All those factors are relevant but the biggest by a country mile is the bond market and gov debt. Low rates will not hold going forward and bond buyers will demand higher rates to cover risk.
