I agree Sakura. This situation appears to be a stalemate between Iranian demands now having used up their good will, Israeli interests, Gulf interests, US and Trump pressures in the Gulf, and the rumoured blackmail material Israel has on Trump.

I cannot see any side willingly stepping back from this.

I agree Mike, but if this is going on for some time, people are likely to sell because of impatience, worry or need of money. I will plan to buy more then if it goes as expected.

This war is going to continue, at least from the Iranian side. My guess is share price and Gold probably impacted negatively for next 2 months, after which we may see the natural gold value upswing associated with prolonged conflict or instability

BHMB is not a fact, as the remaining asset is moving after the company has dissolved. If it was stolen as you claim, the company would be an active entity in order to lose it.

If a Chinese business was investing in mining in Nicaragua, then they would be entitled to the same concession the US had when they entered prior to sanctions, and similar to what MTL inherited from Condor gold. Given what is actually in the news, it suggests Nicaragua is trying hard to court business to the country, and China is putting money where its mouth is. That is the opposite of theft.

If it was not, then companies could appeal to the WTO if it is a dispute around taxes or tariffs, which they have not. The key question here is who owns the US entity that was dissolved in 2025. If it is owned by the Ortego family via a holding company, then there is no issue. The article doesn't look into ownership at all, and skirts around the issue that whoever is resident to US and UK would potentially have been ignoring sanctions in place since 2018 and 2022 which is illegal.

Considering the arms embargo the US has on Nicaragua, selling to China seems like a smart idea. The more foreign superpower assets in the region the greater the soft power protecting it from the USA. This might have been one of the reasons why Venezuela was such a swift intervention, because there is a lot of Chinese money in Venezuela.

I'm with you Chilliboots. I am biding my time. Iran doesn't look like it is going to slow down at all. If anything more regional conflict seems imminent.

Agree Lee. However if the strait remains compromised, we will see in excess of $100 a barrel. We will remain profitable, but this will eat further into margins. Other situations proposed by governments affected by the recent price hike is offering relief on fuel duty, so they make seek to obtain from elsewhere. All factors to consider.

Sakura, things that come to mind off hand were worries about share price and selling, Dupax, Nicaraguan stability. There are probably others. All things that I think are reasonable to discuss and express opinions on.

Personally I worry that the Iran war is going to be directly and indirectly significant for MTL, and more so the longer it drags on. If inflation hits the Philippines hard, will that help mining sentiment but also push up what the government demands from MTL? Similar in Nicaragua. The low ASICs might be challenged significantly, which undermines the value in riskier regions.

Anti-US sentiment in the Philippines might also invite its own troubles compared to the Duterte and Trump friendship in 2016. Current administration is willing to openly flex its might and leave chaos in its place. These fears apply too for Nicaragua given previous sanctions from the USA and now this America's Shield initiative they are presenting.

I think being able to try and reason out some of these risks would be helpful. As much as I believe in MTL, risks should be considered, and MTL is a large middle level risk investment for me and I do not like losing money for lack of research or consideration

Appreciating macro forces, forming an opinion on it based of as much substantive data and its subsequent impact on ours investments is what the rest of us consider risk management, and this board serves as a forum to consider those viewpoints so we might all make better decisions.

I don't think the Iran situation is going to be over soon. It's not being reported here but a lot of arab media and videos getting through on twitter show that attacks are still continuing at a significant rate. The lack of reporting here is trying to portray some stability and dominance of the situation which there might not be.

Gold I reckon will be on the up shortly. Oil is probably due to the reserve release and Trump saying it will be over very soon, but I doubt it will be. Iran has no reason to stop until invaders have been repelled, which translates to absolutely devastating enemy positions around it now.

Iranian revolutionary army is a semi-autonomous force that followed the Ayatollah and not the direct control of the government so saying they will switch sides seems awfully hopeful based on their foundation and history, and the main army is engaged in conflict to protect the country that is under siege. Expecting them to switch sides and allow the rest of their infrastructure to be destroyed is highly unlikely. Iranians are very proud of their nation.

If it heads back to 10-11p, I will probably add some more to the pile. However news is being inconsistent and that is frustrating. Mining is inherently risky, I would much rather know actual facts rather than spin to consider appropriately. Spin and the circumstance with Dupax reduces trust and reduced mine somewhat. I don't think we should have to dig aggressively through local news for a reasonable update on these circumstances.
