Everyone in the health sector is now talking about having the vaccine in place for the 2021/22 winter. Hence why the government is planning to spend billions on the moonshot testing in Spring 2021. This pushes recovery timescales back at least 6 months. Can airlines really survive another year of this without additional funds???

It’s obvious from the government’s plans to spend a ridiculous £100BN on the moon shot testing that the vaccine will not be effective until late 2021 and we have no guarantee it will even work. The government is seriously going to struggle to get the second wave under control with schools back and people lethargic about taking precautions. Expect travel sector to grind to a halt very soon so way too early to be buying back into IAG

IMO these shares will be plus 100p by December due to the inevitable second lockdown. COVID-19 will not be resolved until late 2021 and by then people’s habits will have been fundamentally altered in the same way that working from home will become the new norm. At 80p a share there is still plenty of upside to be had.

Having read through the various message threads I feel it would be fair to say that the current situation can be summed up by the phrase what a mess! As if these shares weren’t risky enough this rights issue looks a dogs dinner! Will look again once it’s out the way.

Exactly why don’t you use the filter option. I welcome all views from the wildly optimistic to the downright pessimistic. We shouldn’t be looking to ban people whose views we do not agree with. No-one posting on here has the ability to affect the SP and during these turbulent times who can say with any confidence that the more outlandish suggestions are without due concern.

On this mornings Breakfast on BBC the health secretary also said that countries who had introduced test on arrival are moving away from it as it only captures 7% of positive cases and doesn’t clinically work.
So that’s pretty much screwed the aviation sector until the vaccine comes out next year.

Portland next time I fly with BA it will be business or first for the examples you sight. I used to resent paying the premium but now think it’s a small price to pay! Maybe the impact on executive travel will not be as pronounced as feared...

Stop the under 25s from travelling and you stop the spread of Covid. It’s quite clear the under 25s do not give 2 hoots about a disease which has no impact on their health. Maybe they will start to care if their privileges are revoked!

IMO there is a great opportunity to double your money on RR within 6 months. As gloomy as today is the markets will soon start focusing on 2021 and beyond and this SP will rocket. My only question is how greedy to be?

The government really has backed the entire UK airline industry into a tight corner by linking quarantine to an infection rate of +20 cases per 100,000 population. Inevitably every country will be over this during the winter months so presumably that will mean quarantine for everyone!
The forecast low demand makes me very nervous that IAG will be delivering more bad news to shareholders than just the expected RI.
Don’t think for one minute IAG won’t do to investors what they have done to their employees in order to survive.

Greek quarantine by end of the week...

Expecting the next 2 weeks to be brutal on SP. 1. Greece will be next to be added to quarantine list. 2. Impending Share dilution. 3. Shares due a fall from record highs.

If Greece goes into quarantine in a weeks time that will hurt airlines SP. Mind you the rate the UK is rising and with the return of schools it won’t be long before we’re not welcome! More disruption to come.

The rights issue is really not the issue, in fact this additional liquidity may help the SP as it has done with many other companies in the travel sector because the biggest drag on SP is whether the company will survive and the rights issue helps to secure that.
The reason for selling is the inevitable second wave and lockdown. We’ve been hit by the first wave which had ebbed out to sea but another bigger wave is coming for winter in the Northern Hempisphere. Bigger because halting movement a second time will have an even greater economic impact. The infamous 80p valuation is no longer far fetched.
So my strong opinion is to sell now and buy back in next year when the tide turns again.

Whatamess I must admit that I used to think your 80p prediction was cloud cookoo land especially when the SP surged to 350p. However, I’m almost resigned to the fact that you have called this one right. Look at any charts and it’s clear the second wave has already started and combined with a full winter the impact will be worse than what we went through in Spring. The brief travel window we have seen is rapidly closing and I can’t see it reopening again until next summer. I’ve even sold my Ryanair shares today and they are in a much better position that IAG. IAG will be busy arranging additional liquidity to see out the coming storm and inevitably that is going to hit share holders. Small shareholders need to get the heck out of airlines before they are badly burnt

Now is not the time to buy airlines. We will soon be back to quarantine on all countries and EU likely to take reciprocal action. Without a doubt new lows will be reached in the coming weeks. Don’t think we will get to the 80p prediction but somewhere near £1 is not unreasonable to expect
