Its one thing to say that you/others don't have to endure it. I am prepared to and maybe I am somewhat more fortunate than some but in reality really feeling it. You say what you say if you believe your interests are best served by having Putin steel tranches of land as much as he likes indefinitely.

It's entirely another to suggest hat the sanction are not hurting Russia. None of the actions that Putin is taking suggest to me that they are in great shape? Do you really think that the west can't cope better than Russia.

Russia is the worlds little big man. GDP about the size of London. It cannot compete with the west.

Sanctions need to stay strong and long. You/me/everyone will be better off in the long run - and that includes the Russian people.

Also - do people not realise that Putin has been planning to use gas a weapon v Europe for many many years? This was always coming. Putin wants to do what he wants and he was always going to use blackmail with gas to do that?

So just lifting sanctions aint going to solve the actual problem. We either stand up to Russia or we embrace the Russian way of life. Easy for us to say as we are some way down the list compared to ex soviet and balkan states but nevertheless an eroding of our freedoms is the game here. Putin doesnt want democracy on the doorstep as it makes it too obvious to the people he needs to generate wealth for him and a small number of thugs that they could have a better life.

I'm not sure I have the stomach for my kids getting arresting for having a view on something and then conscripted and sent to a war zone to either die, be maimed or best case have post traumatic stress. Maybe be forced to do something terrible to other human beings.

The sanctions have purpose and do work in time.

It's not rue that sanctions are not hurting Russia. They are in big trouble.

I don't have all of the detail although they will be in these threads and the RNS's. Current lab turnaround seems to be about 2 months. So if WSBN sent first cores to lab in mid August then yes mid October is possible.

Can it be faster. Speculation at this point. In normal times could be 4 weeks however what I have seen from other posters suggests there are backlogs at the labs. Busy times in Australia for mineral exploration. many more experienced in this field than me. I think the SP tells us that the market isn't expecting news right now and I would think that the SP will start to go up in anticipation.

The thing is there are plenty of middle class Russians moving between Russia and the west. They see both sides. Sometimes hear comments about NATO pushed the agenda too far but absolutely none seem to support this war and they all know Putins a liar and a problem for Russia. The hey can’t say it back home. Rationally I can look at any of the videos and come back and point out to you that it does not demonstrate what you say it does. Over the last several years - every time I have looked at a video pushed in this way it has been a load of absolute carp. Every time. Not once has any of it changed my mind. It's almost as if I have a brain and the people who post this rubbish don't - or maybe it's deliberate. I stick to my case - you know its carp and no sentient being would think otherwise.

Posting videos to back up a false narrative. I have seen some of them. One today looks like I could have made it with my kids although we would probably have done a better job.

It's funny actually because this is what we get in all forms of organised trolling. Whether its Russian trolling, Brexit trolling, COVID trolling. Always the same methods - undermine the argument, use previous wrongs to justify current and future bigger wrongs, undermine our democratic principles and make us doubt our beliefs. I suggest that we simply ignore Putin. Continue to support Ukraine in defeating Russia. What we have is Putin backing further and further into a corner. Unfortunately for Putin it will never come to nuclear war - he will get removed well before then.

I guess where I would blame Russia would be in any situation where it is clear that Russia has invaded a sovereign state without any justification other than to maintain it's own political status as it currently stands.

Have they done that - yes. Therefore it is ALL RUSSIA's FAULT from that point onwards. Absolutely everything that Ukraine does from that point forwards is more or less literally self defence and can be justified.

No that was never said by EU or NATO. You might infer that was what was being suggested but it's just social media interpretation. Nobody would actually make that as policy. Putin would but then he says lots of things that are not true.

I just watched this interview. I'm failing to draw the conclusions some of you have. If Ukraine is fighting a Russian invasion then the troop positions around the nuclear power station are targets. I can't see any evidence that anyone thought 'it's live feck' or any conspiracy. Just a previously employed 'ex ambassador' giving his honest opinion on things. Concludes by recognising that Putin has backed himself into a corner. He also points out that he is no military expert.

Some of you need to decide if you like living with the relative safety of your keyboards or get gone and sign up to the Russia army - they will take even you however useless you would be.

The existential threat of nuclear armageddon should not be considered at all in my view. Easy to say. I have kids and want them to have a happy life. But it's irrelevant at that point as we are all gone.

First of all the red line that Putin thinks he just drew is not real. Ukraine/western arms suppliers/governments will not accept this. You can expect Ukranian forces to start to retake some of the 'annexed' territories soon. Putin sober rattle now requires action or he's toast. Thing is he can't authorise the use of nuclear weapons as the western response will be the end of his Ukraine front via conventional means. What's he going to do about that? Kill everyone in the whole world? Not very appealing even to his Russian backers- and most of them are now only backers in public.

The words are for the specific purpose of building fear and doubt. It is total bluff. We should respond with courage and confidence.
