Coal washing29 Jun 2018 11:13

"The answer given to me about costs involved to feed a 300MW power station seemed a bit vagued. Rufus said we could dig the coal out the ground and use it straight away without needing to wash it. I will let someone who knows about these things comment."
Anyone got any thoughts. I have found the following for BIPP (RNS)
"Results from simple washability indicate that there is potential to lower the ash content, increase the calorific value and lower the total sulphur content by washing the coal at an appropriate density (de-stoning) to maximize coal yields for use in a thermal power plant"
and for MCPP (Broker Note 2014)
"The raw coal and washability data indicate to us that the product would require washing in order to destone and remove contaminants in order to meet power generating requirements."
Then updated 2016 in the MDFS 2016
“The significance of the mining method that was developed for the Mbeya coal mine cannot be underestimated,” said Louis Coetzee, CEO of Kibo Mining. “The method not only eliminated one of the two biggest environmental risks for the MCPP, i.e. eliminating the need to wash coal, but also required the coal requirement by 23%, which means substantial cost savings for both the mine and power plant.”
