Just watched my eldest get his first 50 ably supported by his younger brother hitting the winning runs in a local league game tonight. Now thats a fact and reported as it happened not over a year later. Been a while coming but always been a question of when not if, just needed to back himself and have a bit of belief and ignore all the guff

No it sounds more like a letter of intent .... not legally binding but a commitment nonetheless

Agreed on PPA for MCPP

Which is why the BCPP is different with letters of comfort for 150MW from multiple power supply off-takers in place and thermal coal producers stating terms and conditions to supply the plant with necessary coal

PPA first and no lingering issues over whether they can get the coal will derisk the project

No plan survives contact with the enemy ......

The factors that have delayed the MCPP (legislation, licence, partner selection, PPA and over the last 3 years or so likely financial constraints) are unlikely to be replicated (or just not relevant) with BIPP. Thats not to say there are not other in country risks that have yet to materialise.

The one factor that could effect timescales thatis similar to MCPP is the Moz Govt.

..... timescales with the BIPP ..... JD is right that the ‘private’ offtake agreement will make it a much speedier process and we don't have any mining legislation or licences to apply for. It would be nice to get a detailed milestone plan for the key deliverables. Past experience may counsel against this but they need to layout the next 24-36 months development activity. Key question for the AGM if its not done beforehand

The South African Government has earmarked 3,750 megawatts to be generated from coal from cross border projects.

Just a bit of idle speculation whilst we wait. Seems to me there is a real opportunity for one or more of these African countries to not only address there own energy needs but to those of surrounding countries (and make good use of their natural resources). Botswana already seems to have an agreement with South Africa for supply

Interesting observation. The strapline to that graphic is "Botswana is ideally located with abundant coal to help address Southern Africa’s current power deficit and so support the rapid economic development of the region" and its list some other projects under African Energy Resources "The company is focused on the development of multiple integrated power projects in Botswana to meet the increasing demand for power in the southern African region". I wouldn't be surprised if the next opportunity was in Botswana. Have a look at their current projects esp Mmamabula West

I don't know but I suspect it makes financing conversations throughout the process a lot easier and quicker if you have that in your hand to start with.
