@troublesome, fair play to the a&e staff. They had someone waiting for her, stellar service when you consider the pressure our trust is under. She has a history of lung issues so the wife is caring for her. More concerned that she doesn't get covid as well right now.
So what about the other 24 areas that have declared critical incidents?
The mother in law yesterday (85) had to make her own way to A&E with a serious chest infection because GP wouldn't even entertain a phone consultation. Got treated at hospital, discharged with antibiotics rather than kept in as assessed risk of covid coinfection greater on a ward than at home. Normally they'd have kept her in because of her history.
Many countries won't let us in without testing so it isn't going to be boom time for travel anyway, our problems will start (again) when people return untested. That's how delta and omicron got in and sowed themselves so widely before we knew it.
It's now > 3 months since the booster campaign kicked off for the most at risk categories in the UK and cases are begining to inevitably rise amongst them. What are we going to do? Yet more boosters? Numbers coming forward for their 3rd shot have collapsed since Xmas. Take up of a fourth will be even lower and we have no idea if the next variant to emerge will arise from omicron so what would be the the point of an omicron specific vaccine.
The thing is, scrapping PCR for day 2 only solves half of the problem for the airlines. Almost anywhere you can travel from the UK requires a test for entry, that test being PCR mostly. There are of course plenty of countries where we can't travel at all. Even with no testing requirements air travel was on its knees this year, it will be years before the likes of ezj dig themselves out of their debt holes. Based on fundamentals all of the airlines are overpriced at their current prices.
Wilson, it was Witty who said it. There are currently at least 16k hospitalizations in the UK (15k England). The data is there for anyone to check. Over two thirds of admissions are because of covid, not with. Unless of course people think CMO England is lying.
The world gives us Flurona

Happy New Year one and all.
Just cracking on is exactly what's perpetuating this pandemic. More cases equal more mutations, it's a biological fact.
My father died an alcoholic, spent many a day in spoons downing cheap pints and rum. Should I hate JDW investors for profiting from my misery? No, because I'm not a moaning f@cking manbaby.
I said weeks ago that the Chinese would embargo the export of diagnostics because they'll struggle to control omicron. Now lo and behold the UK has a shortage of tests, coming as a surprise to absolutely no one with the exception of this government. Their incompetence is simply mind boggling. When are the press going to pick up on the scandalous treatment of it's own diagnostics industry?
That will be Xian, they've also got haemorrhagic fever there. I don't think they'll ultimately be able to control omicron, too transmissible even for their heavy handed approach. Wait until they start embargoing the export of diagnostics to satisfy domestic demand.
Israel are 3 months ahead of us with their booster program, cases have doubled there in last week. Whether that translates to something more serious for them remains to be seen but it is obvious that there's at least a significant waning in protection from transmission even after a booster.
China are probably deeply worried as sinovac looks poor against omicron, they also supplied a lot of the middle east and north Africa.
1061 admissions in England alone on the 20th, government only released figures for the 18th today @ 800 because all nations had reported. Scotland's figures for the 20th are not in yet so they won't be released cumulatively until they are. Hospitalizations are rising significantly, in line with increased cases and will continue to rise taking in to account lag.
