RE: Tugs10 Oct 2023 09:03
The Sarah Grey's navigational status is showing as "Restricted Manoeuvrability", so I would guess it's towing. Noted it was inside the building dock yesterday and that is where the barges are usually lowered into the water.
As you say and also reported by Vessel finder... "The current position of VENTURE is at North Sea reported 23 hours ago by AIS. The vessel is en route to the port of London, United Kingdom (UK), and expected to arrive there on Oct 12, 12:30."
Marine Traffic has not updated it's details since early yesterday so can't see it's status.
Talking of tugs, namely electrified, zero emmissions ones. The ones H&W are proposing to be gettting into. I've been looking at the competition and it would seem that they are already years behind the curve, even if they had one ready to go, as of today. Most of the major tug manufacturers have had theirs on the market for quite some time. Noted that our latest "partner" Echandia collaborated with Damen in 2020 to create the world's first full-size, fully electric ship-handling tugboat - dubbed 'Sparky'.
They say they had "lots of interest" when they showed their design at a trade show. Duh, it's a trade show. That's what people do at trade shows. They wander from stand to stand showing great interest, grab some freebies in a branded tote bag and move on. No a great reason to start on the road to manufacturing a new line.
If they need one so badly, then just buy one. Makes good sense if they can get a good deal on one. But to go through the whole process of a new design and build seems a bit daft. In my view.
