Not recently purchased and not new to the company, afaiaa, it was part of the fixtures and fittings when they bought the yard but has always been known as the Lundy Puffin. From the agents sales bumph,"There is a substantial amount of fixtures, fittings and plant remaining on site and this includes a dock tug boat". They took her down south a couple of weeks ago and have just tidied her up with a lick of paint. I did mentioned it on here back then when Stokey was asking how Marine Services has grown to five freight vessels. I knew it belonged to the yard but wasn't sure what it was doing in Penzance. Didn't realised that they were incorporating it into the Marine services arm of the business. Not sure exactly when the crane was fitted and it could well be a new addition. It certainly wasn't fitted in this old photo taken at Appledore.

When JW said they had "acquired" a tug during the Scutiny Committee meeting I thought they might have gone out and found something substantial enough for towing barges and possible FFS blocks from the various sites to save on the hiring costs. Similar to the Venture that has done the bulk of the Cory barges. This is classed as a "port tender" and might be okay in and around the yards pushing and pulling stuff into place. Might be better suited as a small "Crew Transfer Vessel " as an acquisition of one of those was also mentioned in that meeeting. But not sure as a full on ocean going tug though, as it only has a bollard pull of 5t. In comparison to the 21t of the Venture tug that has done the bulk of the Cory barge transfers. That seems to be up for sale, if this sales page is current. Only £450,000.

DoN's deleted post, that was obviously posted after the "trading suspended" post can clearly be seen in thread view as the last post in that 2p thread, so someone has their interpretation of the facts wrong. imo

Looked at the past track on Marine Traffic and it didn't go anywhere near the drydock. Just kind of pulled away from where it moored.

I know it's been on the cards for a while, like a few other things, but I've been looking at a mutitude of tugs recently as during the Scilly scutiny meeting JW actually said that they had "acquired " one, along with a CTV. We have seen this one before in Belfast and even though it came up from Southampton (where H&W don't have an office) it's owned by Holyhead Towing.

Both of the M55's hull's were intact when they were floated into the dry dock. Not sure if they have compromised the integrity ot the Atherstone's hull whist using it for spares for the Quorn. Other than needing to keep them dry whilst doing any repairs to the GRP components of the vessels I'ld Imagine the main reason they were kept inside over this extended period was for security rerasons. Never know who's nosing about. ;) Would certainly have made working conditions easier with ability to disregard the weather. Can't imagine it will be very much longer before they are done with the Quorn anyway. A few more months if they are on track. As regards maneuvering them aroundaround to get the cable barge out. The Altherstone is on the left hand side of the dry dock, looking out, so is adjacent to the mezzanine level where the pic shows the cable barge under construction. I was trying to recall the timeline between the finishing of the Tower Lifeboat Station pontoon and the arrival of the Minesweepers and if they were "in the way" when that was floated out. I'd imagine the main reason to keep them inside is there are no quayside cranes at Appledore anymore. Inside there are a number of heavy lift gantrty cranes to move things in and aropund the vessels. So to answer your question , unless they are desperate for the space I can't imagine they would move them out to work on them. And if they are still there when the FSS work starts then we may have bigger issues. :)

Yeah, good shout. But in the link that was shared a week ago by KMS, it looked a little way off completion. Good if they have got it done as they originally said for spring delivery.

Maybe waiting on the tide to get over the sand bar, but after a lot of faffing about out in the bay the Afon Alaw has now moored up at the Newquay yard. Same place the Terramare and Samson were. So I would guess it's almost certainly something to do with the yard as that is their mooring and not somewhere where a casual visitor to Appledore would park up. Interesting.

Fwiw, you can buy @ 12.74 currently. Earlier it was 12.79 and before that closer to 12.90.

The trades in the 12.60's and lower were sells. Shouldn't have to guess as it's quite easy to do a dummy trade at the time, if you are not sure. Will wait for the big trade to go through to prove me wrong. :)

Seems like the original target that said "VILANOVA_ALGECIRAS" was right. But it should have been read as Vilanova to Algeciras. As Algeciras is a port in the bay of Gibraltor and is where the AW is pulling into at the mo. :) Will have to see what they change the next destination too once it's docked.

Saw a tug buzzing around it yesterday. I'd been expecting it to be leaving a few days ago. Just goes to show how the details on the Belfast Harbour website can sometimes be wrong as they still have as the 24th of May. Vessels of interest all over the place last few days, LSE. :)
