There is no way of accurately detecting whether a driver is over the blood alcohol limit to drive a vehicle with a camera-based driver monitoring system.

A more sensible system would be as follows -

A vapour sensor detects alcohol vapour in the vehicle and immobilizes the ignition system if that is appropriate.

Whatever procedures to allow the vehicle to be driven must then be followed or the vehicle stays where it is.

So, what do you think?

I know which approach I prefer, so it is video watching beforehand or a 200 mile test drive. Or I ain't buying the vehicle.

That will prove to be the most sensible approach.

This is another reason that professional test drivers and driving test examiners should be used for testing safety systems like SEE tech.

Any prospective car buyers will benefit greatly from being able to watch some clear videos of real-world testing.

Every false positive seat vibration or audible alarm can be analysed by professional testers in real time as it occurs.

If anyone who ever reads that disagrees then they don't have to watch the videos and can ask all their questions during a test drive.

You might find some entertainment value but you are in a very small minority 0f 1 judging by the number of discussions I have had so far, outside of this forum.

The need for synthetic data indicates that there might be a problem with using real data.

The best way to test any of these monitoring systems is testing by professional test drivers and driving test examiners working closely together.

The testing would have to be totally independent of the manufacturer of any of the systems being tested.

Vapour sensors are useless if everyone else in the vehicle is intoxicated to the extent that the smell of alcohol is noticeable in the vehicle.
