Do you know that back in January I was called a de-ramper and short seller by a number of contributers to this board , and that font of all knowledge Wiscos stated that he would call me out at every posting !!! Well I sold at 0.95.6 and feel sorry for those who regarded the opposite view espoused by the so called " expert "

A small repost to Wiscos and Bhaveen, You may disagree with my earlier post, it was sent as an informative text with an amazing amount of factual information. This poster is immensly involved in the gift business and greeting cards primarily, Card Factory have to constantly report profits to satisfy their numerous shareholders, whereas any competitor requires market share, with no responsibility to anyone except their financiers ! The whole industry in these islands is nervous, discounts are numerous from wholesalers and printers, - dont take my word for it, get involved in the business yourselves - No I thought not , To be called a de-ramper is pathetic , Tell me then why has " The Market " got it so wrong ?

The general optimism regarding Card Factory is over exubriant in the near term, There is no silver bullet that can mitigate the rise and rise of Cards Direct, a rival that most of you will not have heard of!! Privately financed by a family of Asians that can call on vast sums of cash to buy a large foothold in the U.K. They have the capacity to print their own designs and are able to negotiate leases that are cheap ( being just off the main shopping areas ) Main wholesalers are concerned as they will not sell into them , and quality producers like Johnny Javelin need the higher end of sales to finance their operation ! Once Valentines Day and Mothers day are clear, the next six months are decidedly weak, break even at best, although most will record losses. The conclusion therefore is that CF will tread water until next Xmas time, beyond that is in the lap of the Gods. Any other informed opinion is welcome but facts speak for themselves !!!

Two weeks ago, when the Share Price was £3.72, the dividend was equivilent to 7.45 % annually a sweet return upon a footse 100 company with quarterly payments ! The share price improvement whilst being welcome , reduces the annual return in percentage terms , but I suppose capital appreciation is more important to most investors . Pesonally looking for £5.00 , but dividends certainly assuage the short term pain !!!!!

Portfpliopower, In an attempt to answer your question it maybe the fact that Moonpig has relatively fewer employees as it is an online company, whereas Card has to contend with shop leases, shop rates and the very real advent of the minimum wage increases and increased P.A.Y.E ! Moonpig earning less yet considered more stableas costs are relatively low.

As all the contributors here realise that Card Factory is under severe pressure from serious competition in the form of Cards Direct, a privately funded entity with millions available to attack the market - Never heard of them ? Just check them out in the South East, tight labour market, negotiate short leases, flood their shops with cheaper goods, very little garbage "gifts" a real concern !!!! Clintons are extreemly expensive and are in retreat, and om-line hardly appeals to the touchy feely brigade - Be aware !!!!!!!!

If one is subjective then sooner or later 0il has to be fundamental to the Israelies cause, the attempt to seriously disrupt the Iranian economy would constitute a major sucess, not only economically but politically also. It may not happen this time, and it may be undesirable to the U.S.A. but in a country surrounded by enemies every sucess is a big win !!!We all await events and we cannot control them but seriously, if Israel comes second then beware world !!

Fairdealer20 , Total support in your considered analysis, if Mars was starting to trade profitably during the iast 12 months then why begin to dispose of the " Crown jewels" as this affects their overall returns, alternatively if Mars were getting short of liquid cash, then the selling of a serious asset is understandable. We have constantly been told by the stags that a good summer is imminent, that interest rates will be in decline, that tomorrow we will see a blue Moon , yet none of these are a given, just a wish ( except the Blue Moon ) As for the lauded 30% rise in the share price since the start of the year , a rising tide lifts all ships, whether they are sea worthy or not !! I AM EXTREEMLY CAUTIOUS regarding the share price and indeed the non commital language of the update. Sir or Madame, you are not alone dont cease posting !!!

Stunning, absolutely stunning , with interest rates falling like a stone, with the hotest summer on record, with England in europe beating mode , with more money in customers pockets, Marstons share price is back to the depth of despair of January , could it be too much debt ? No surely not as they are valued at £2 billion even though they owe £1 billion, Question, How many loaves of bread can you purchase with a second hand brick ?

Pedro , Thank you for your enlightened comments upon my investing position but my beef is not with the product or the share but is firmly aimed at an incompetant B.O.D who endorsed the ridiculous expansion on borrowed finance saving a group that was going bust anyway !!! And the third rate chairman who championed such action has now departed for pastures new having drawn an excellent salary in the time of the worst position that the company has been in for ages.

You and other shareholders may be happy at the gamblers call that was perpetuated with your funds, I for one am not and are prepared to say so The future should improve the position but it will be a long hard slog but I will not countenance the dreamers who constantly ramp - up a share that is in the Dog House!!!

Once again all the optomists come to the forth with calculations of where the share price could be if only the debt were so much less than £1 billion and if only interest rates would reduce and if people start spending heavily again and we experience a blistering summer etc, etc, etc. Conversley where will we be if interest rates do not reduce, and people do not increase their spending and we have a lousy summer? Council Tax rates are still rising, Salaries are 10% higher costs still in excess of 5% increase. I Fully expect the usual tirade of nonesense from the usual suspects, yet all the daydreaming of the past 4 months is now so much garbage !!!!!

Highly leveraged , Income not sufficient to satisfy repayments, dwindling custom as prices are pushed forward the srnario is consistent with history and nothing good has ever survived the comparison ! 1 saving grace, and that is the involvement of Carlsburg and their attitude is largely unknown, a possible white knight ? or an asset stripper ?

Pedro61 , I have a very diverse portfolio thank - you very much , but I have been invested in Mars since 2008 and yes have averaged down to now £0.81 on a whole host of Mars shares. I refuse to be lectured by a starry - eyed punter like you who expects me to sell up at a massive loss to go and invest in something more profitable !!If you have bought at around £0.31 ish you are fortunate but many long term holders are involved at a much more serious level O.K. ???

All this understanding of History is fine for the schoolroom, nobody has mentioned that with a stuggling company like Marsdens a 10% rise in the minimum wage , coming into force within 3 days, will be an absolute ball breaker financially , not withstanding the extra employers N.I. PAYABLE ON THE INCREASE !! Every Monday and Tuesday is generally dead anyway but staff still have to be engaged , 6 hours at £11.10 / hour straight - off the bottom line !! The only positive is one tries to increase prices, with the prospect of loosing custom or reduce costs - fat chance. No wait, the BOD are idle, contribute virtually zero, now that would be a good cost saving !

Are all us long suffering shareholders ready for the 10 % rise in basic pay being enforced upon us in a few days time ? Say hello to the £ 5.00 pint , say goodbye to a multitude of your customers , desperate times indeed not allowing for rises in council rates, electricity, etc. £1.02 per share seems a long distant memory ( which bye the way, undervalued the company)
