"Market maker codes

Despite there being a distinct lack of evidence of this, there are people who will swear blind by market maker codes. This is where a market maker will put a certain amount of stock through Level 2 in order to send a message to his market maker friends. This rumour originated from the US whereby a market maker did claim that market makers worked together if one of them found themselves in an uncomfortable position. While it is possible to put fake trades through the exchange – such as ‘wash trading’ as revealed in the Beaufort Securities scandal, which brought the broker to a collapse – there are far easier ways of market makers communicating with each other, if they really wanted to. But even now people will think a ‘1’ share trade means an RNS is coming, and people trying to ramp the price will literally buy a single share knowing that people trade on this. This is probably due to selective memory – the private investors who believe in codes remember the few times a code ‘worked’, and forget all of the previous times that it did not."

Hi lignumvitae, I do appreciate that info, and will take a look at ORGS. However, I've made an agreement with Mrs SGD27 to start winding down my single stock investments over the next few months, having recently had a spectacular success with SNG (which has more than covered some of my earlier disasters!).

I'll continue with Arix for now though, as I regard it as being more like a fund than a single stock - and also because I believe it is offering a rare "Grahamite" opportunity.

BTW, I don't know if you've followed it, but there have been some interesting developments today involving Link & Acacia, which I'll probably post about later or tomorrow.

@Greenfish : I don't think they'd do that - it would complicate things too much by making the two trials not statistically independent.

Wonder how long it will take for the Acacia TR1 to arrive?

9. Pharmaxis/LOXL2 partnership deal

@Dip666 : I agree re II criteria, and also think they will be put off by a sub-1p SP. For that reason I can imagine there might be a consolidation (100:1?) if/when we transition into production.
