Yes, I think we agree, it's just down to what exactly the word "published" means. That's why I said "officially publication", meaning acceptance by the journal after peer review. As you say, pre-review "preprints" are being made available online.

It's highly unlikely that the paper would be rejected outright. Quite possible that they'll be asked for clarifications, rewording etc before official publication.

They need to write up a scientific paper and submit it for publication before it can be peer reviewed. I'd expect an RNS when they do this.
