Knot's comments on the potential of a bid for CBG got me thinking.

How much cash will CBG be sat on by year end?

With the likely demise of the FCA scheme and the possibility for a significantly reduced compensation liability this could add significantly to CBG's attractiveness as a takeover target.....by year end there could be in the region of £300-400million(?) sat in their a/c that was earmarked for the scheme that is now freed up, that must be very tempting for any potential purchaser.

I hope not ByeHi....much will rest on the update this week.

If it's grim I don't know where we go from here but I think I'd be tempted to give up on it and accept the losses incurred as heaven knows when it will ever recover....on the other hand, it could be that shorts are just looking to flush out nervous investors and it could pop if news is ok/good.

If I wasn't already so committed I do think I'd take a punt now.

Must admit Jperry, it can get uncomfortable sometimes (especially when Viceroy came along with their BS) and I do often trade out if a quick profit is on the table, whilst always maintaining my core holding.

After nearly 2 years of owning CBG and with the very insightful opinions of others on here, I feel like I know the ebbs and flows of the stock. The main thing though is I still think the stock is really cheap, so even with the frustration (and irritation) of the drops I'm always fairly confident that it will recover and then some.

Picked up another 10k today; as per usual an overdone sell off based on very little.

If this scheme was to be cancelled how many 'customers' would be bothered to leap through the new hoops for a few hundred quid, I'd imagine the number of claimants would drop dramatically....and then how many would have winnable claims based on Supreme court rulings, even less, if many at all.

Big increase - up to 8.39% now, with 8 different funds.....and this is just those over 0.5%.

Fairly horrendous.

Seems like they are back with a vengeance, which isn't great if they believe it's worth shorting at around £3.30. Quite clearly there is minimal confidence here and as JG states; if this is such a bargain, how come there are no insider buys?

Genuinely cannot remember when anything remotely positive emenated from Future.

IMO if we are to witness any sort of meaningful recovery it's time for a break up of the company, otherwise it will just drift along indefinitely at the mercy of shorts all the time.

What an utter shambles, just gets worse and worse.

If/when this is ever resolved, Rathi has to go (if not immediately), most of this is down to him and his inflated ego.

The entire scheme should be scrapped and let those who believe they have a genuine grievance go to court and see where it gets them.

As a counter argument; he was also Chief Techology Officer for 8 years prior to this, so it isn't like he hasn't been involved in board level decisions for some time or wasn't able to hit the ground running.

Based on this I still stand by my original assertion that he needs to go and that his departure would be a big positive for the SP....my view remains that he is hopeless and out of his depth.

The CEO stepping down certainly wouldn't depress the share price.....it would be the first bit of positive news for quite a while.

Even if there was to be more negativity, the SP certainly wouldn't drop to anywhere near £2, that's just a daft comment....it would see a market cap of £180m and a forward p/e of around 2, simply not going to happen.

I have topped up a few times but only to sell out again for a profit on each occasion, not really an investment, just a bit of short term trading, which I've done purely to recover some of the considerable losses I have from a far larger initial 'investment'.

I don't really see the 'negativity', I'm purely going on the evidence we have to hand....falling profits and margins, a collapsing share price and a CEO with all the charisma and seemingly ability of a bowl of porridge.

Jeez, some on here are easily pleased.

Any business that halves in value in 5 months has problems.....it's NOT just down to market perception, quite clearly a series of decisions have been taken, none of which have proved successful....the worst of all being the buybacks, £millions wasted on purchasing shares at values way above what we see how, on what planet is that a good deal?

I look at this purely as an investment, with the aim to make money, it's a strange philosophy when you are happy and try to defend a crash of this magnintude.....Even mug punters don't walk out of a bookies or casino proclaiming it's been a successful day when they've lost most of their money!!

you state that the company 'isn't a pile of ****', then proceed to list number of issues that highlight why it is a mess; 'need to trim of over half their current brands', 'debt issue', 's&p downgrade' and go onto to say they need to sell assets to achieve a transformation.....which pretty much backs up my assertion, albeit expressed in a more forthright way.

this should be a 'stable' business, it isn't because it has been hopelessly mis-managed and failed, ironically, to anticipate the future.

Not unreasonable to expect a small uplift today......however, true to form we see another fall, in spite of doubling down on buybacks.

REACH update was so so, though old news considering FUTR had already discussed these issues last month.

Giving up hope of any significant turnaround now, outside of breaking up the business or sacking the CEO.

£2.50 is more likely than £4 IMO.

That to me reads like the FCA are floundering and don't know what to do.

Their current defence seems to be 'we know it's not perfect but please help us out on this occasion as we have no idea what to do next'

Perhaps frustrating that this farce is clearly nowhere near finished but I do get some comfort from the fact that the arrogant and incompetent FCA have painted themselves into a corner and are now somewhat stuck as they potentially watch the entire scheme unravel.

This has dragged on long enough and it's time for clarity and moving on. I just don't see how that is achieved at this moment in time....perhaps the Treasury get's involved, just don't lnow.

I really don't know Jperry....but I would assume that the FCA can't just fiddle around with scheme without the buy in of all parties, which seems unlikely given the different views/concerns.

I can't see any payments being made until this is nailed down....as it stands it's now a mess.

I could be way off the mark but I just don't see how this moves forward now, so IMO there must be a chance of the scheme collapsing.

It's hard to see the scheme surviving with these challenges.

I'm not even sure that the FCA can amend it without having to go through the entire consultation period again, how long would that take?

The Consumer Voice challenge is an irritating irrelevance, however when have you have industrial giants challenging they are likely to have, as you say Basher, the best legal experts money can buy....against Courmac's, a whining ,mickey mouse CMC.

Not sure where this goes now, it's one giant mess, all of the FCA's making.

Imagine providing finance for customers to buy a new car, each and every one of whom was happy to sign a contract and walk away with their new purchase. Then years later someone tries to rewrite the rules retrospectively, whilst ignoring legal opinion and then tells you to stump up £1.5billion to a load of chancers.

Little wonder VW are challenging!

Very close to doing the same today Crossley and buying back in, but decided to stick with just Bellway for now.

I certainly think that the housebulding sector now offers the best value in the FTSE and may well be tempted to add Persimmon as well if the price remains at these levels.

We all know how quickly this sector can take off once sentiment turns....just a settlement in the middle east would give a 25% uplift in rapid time, IMO.
