If you're referring to the return of capital (100p), it's not taxable. They're simply returning your own money to you and reducing the price of the existing shares proportionately.

From previous experience I think you will still have the same number of shares but at a lower share price.

Neither. If it's a return of capital there is no gain. They're simply returning your money to you, so there is no tax to pay, neither income nor capital gains.

I think you get that £450 back in the return of capital.

Difficult to believe that the UA-RU war would account for such a drop when you'd expect at 5%+ rise on such news. Equates to c.10% fall.

There is indeed something seriously wrong if a share that would normally have risen by 5%+ on such news falls by almost the same percentage. It's pretty concerning because it can't be explained away by the UA-RU war.

No way is a 4.28% drop on the results due to "the Russians". This share is on a downward trajectory and has been for ages. Something does not feel right at all. There's nothing but downward movement, regardless of the news. Today's news could easily have led to a 5% rise (minimum), so it has to be seen as almost a 10% drop.

It makes you wonder, then, how BP are going to wriggle out of their 20% stake.

Yes, of course it's about Ukraine. Fleccy's point, though, was why should BT be taking a bigger hit than, for example, Vodaphone, when Vodaphone has exposure in Eastern Europe and BT doesn't. As he says, there's no rationality.

No, you're right. I was just suggesting that it's unfortunate that on XD day there should be a major event out in the world that would/could significantly affect the SP. It would have been informative for investors to have seen the level to which it would have settled and which way it would move after the XD drop.

Me too. I did offload some BT earlier, but I'm loath to risk anything else at the moment.
