Perhaps, Like HL, they pass on earnings on a particular date? So, although BT (or whoever) pays out the dividend, the broker releases it to the client on a certain date, along with any other earnings from the month.
It's perplexing me too, Kate. The pixels on my MacBook screen are now permanently burned red, I'm convinced. Not just abrdn, though, pretty much all of my holdings are just heading south day after day. What a way to start the year!
Yes, fleccy, I spotted that AT&T story yesterday too. I was going to post it here for others to mull over, but then thought "Nah, it won't be relevant by tomorrow.' D'OH!!

It's the massive daily swings that cause alarm rather than the longer term falls and rises. It spent most of today up nearly 4%, but then closes more than 1% down. It's so frustrating. As someone has already said in another thread, tart's knickers.
On publication of the latest "presentation" the SP falls 10%. That tells you everything you need to know about the presentation. Pure marketing. Empty hype.

CrystalBallBroke - Yep, I've had my own run-ins with HL too on these very matters. How they get away with it is anyone's guess. Even today, another of my holdings (on the AIM) shows a gain for the day, but the totals show no change at all from last week. Their explanations for this sort of thing are so convoluted that I just fall asleep.
Hopefully the reappearance of your holding with HL (under the ticker BHPL) will have settled your nerves again. For today they're trading as though you've just bought a new holding, so there won't be any day gain/loss info until tomorrow. GL.

Don't worry, BT is climbing back. You can rarely take opening movements as true indicators of what the SP will do, especially at the start of the week.
