Hi dazzle, perhaps I should point it out for you that people seldom will make profit from buying a share before it goes ex-divi then sell on the ex-divi day.

1) the SP will drop as much, sometimes even more than the amount of dividend on the ex-divi day

2) you pay two sets of commissions(buying and selling)

3) you pay 0.5% of stamp duty(if it's not an AIM share)

4) buy/sell spread

There's only one exception: when a most popular share that its SP drops much less than the dividend on the ex-divi day then you probably will make a very tiny profit for doing that. Therefore I suggest you should buy and hold until the SP recovered from the ex-divi drop before you sell it.

Also correct that the dividend is barely covered. It's why the company needs to grow to do more business. So that they can make more profits. This is why GSF is raising new money to invest in new projects in order to grow then more profits will be made.....

So, let's hope that all things will go well for GSF and for everyone invested here.

It's correct that GSF is raising £190+m from it's proposed placing of 190m new shares. It will be more than the current shares in issue (144m) but the proceeds will be used in a 1.3GW project pipeline, which will significantly increase the company's revenue and therefore also profit in the long run. That's the way to grow and the market is receiving it well. The 1.3GW project will become the company's new assets, not dilution! That's why the SP is holding up well.

You're quite right daneilh. I am actually a very poor investor. Haven't learned a thing for many years, absolutely not qualify to advice you. My post was just a joke. Please ignore what I said. In fact it's me, myself that need advice not you...lol

Good to see NG climbed above 900p again but seemed that the rally was kind of out of steam today. Hope that Monday will see more rises. It will be wonderful if it can go back up above £10 once more, lol

My portfolio consists of 10 shares. Two of them are speculative with no dividend (both are small holdings 1.57% and 3.45% of my p/f) but my other 8 holdings are all high yield. Overall average yield of my entire p/f is 6.1% even with no income from two shares. VOD is the third largest holding of my p/f(14.4%) and the biggest loser. Because I bought them many years ago with an average of 194p, oh my! ....Kill me now!!

DGOC yield over 10% but they made a loss of £136m last year. So they have to borrow of uses their reserve to pay the dividend. I am not sure whether that is worth buying or not. Sounds like it isn't secure at all to me.

Even with the two zero yield holdings, my overall average yield of my entire portfolio is still 6.1%.

BTW, maybe I should point it out here. The 17.57p is the total dividend for the whole year. The coming final dividend will be only 12.64p.

In fact AV is always cash rich. £17b cash is only the second lowest in the past 5 years. They got £38.7b at the end of 2016 and £43.3b in 2017! But then at the end of 2018, the cash mountain has dropped to only £15.9b. What did AV buy in 2018? How did they spend £27.5b that year?? My, my!!

I started online dealing since 2007 with Lloyds Bank because I am their customer for a long time since 1970's. Never had any trouble with their services.
